Are there other fixes or is this RC only a solution for the video sync bug?

  • Patrick Mar 02, 2012

    Nice job!

  • BenToy Mar 02, 2012

please resolve mp3+cdg karaoke sync issue. already waiting for a very long time now please. thanks.

  • Stiko Mar 02, 2012

    Respect!!!

  • Gustavo Mar 02, 2012

That was really really fast! I couldn’t even try to apply the workaround for RC1 :)
    Thank you!

  • Anastrophe Mar 02, 2012

Great – understand the XBMCubuntu delay, but is this just for a new ISO? Can existing installs do an apt-get update to get RC2?

  • Methos Mar 02, 2012

Quick question: If I install this RC2, since XBMC now supports in app updating, when the final version comes out or an RC3, can I update from within XMBC? or am i going to have to come here to download again? Thanks, and as always great work!!!

  • Ulysses Mar 02, 2012

Fantastic!!!! Want to test it this weekend!

  • jospoortvliet Mar 02, 2012

Any chance anyone is going to make a up to date XBMC image on http://susestudio.com? It’d be a nice way to customize & install a new version for me :D

  • d_hero Mar 02, 2012

I just upgraded with sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade, and it worked fine

  • Anastrophe Mar 02, 2012

to answer my own question – it seems to update to RC2 just fine

  • Anonymous Mar 02, 2012

    Nice

  • Rene Mar 02, 2012

You guys rock! Thanks for all the hard work!!!

  • Sjoes Mar 02, 2012

Thanks XBMC for the great software, will try this out today!
@Anastrophe, that sounds great. So I should be able to run Beta 3 and then apt-get update & upgrade to rc2? =D

  • Jim Mar 02, 2012

You guys fracking rock! Any chance the shwag merchant will be changed any time soon? Not a big fan if that site.

  • Zilder Mar 02, 2012

    Quick fixes are goood :)

I found a sweet little bug in the newest release though: any folder marked to contain movies changes to some other “mode”. They stop shoving the “1-up file” and hide all subfolders. Folders marked as series and music videos do not suffer from this.

I found this bug on Linux, running RC2.0

  • dd_macle Mar 02, 2012

well done. all as me is waiting for the release day of XBMC 11.0

  • ghostface237 Mar 02, 2012

    Nice job!!!!!!

  • realjobe Mar 02, 2012

VERY good news this is heading thowards Final. I’m still also waiting for pictureViewing overhaul that will fix/enrich some of the picture related issues (exif etc..)

  • Dave Mar 02, 2012

Sorry if I’m missing something, but it would appear that the download page still has Dharma releases on it. I’m a bit anxious to try this as I haven’t upgraded to Dharma due to the HDMI sound issue with the Acer Aspire, and other machines. Hoping that was solved in Eden.

  • Nachtaktiv Mar 02, 2012

Since Beta 3 there is no file-extension in the Videos/Files/List
and it shows always the film-name instead of the file-name :-(

(e.g. if I name the file with “…3D SBS.mkv”, this info is lost)

  • Zilder Mar 02, 2012

@Nachtaktiv: that is the same bug as I have. You are missing any subfolders and the “..” icon too, right? Folders marked as containing movies, now behave like the movie library: no “..” icon, no subfolders, movie titles instead of filenames, and the most importantly: view options (like “media info” in Confluence) normally only available to the movie library are now accessible is these folders.

  • JiSiN Mar 02, 2012

Get over here! Flawless Victory… ^^

  • Joe L. Mar 02, 2012

I found this is a configurable option now. (to use the library name, or the file name, when in file mode.), same with the “..” entry. It too is configurable. Unfortunately, the distribution has it set to use the library name, and not the file name.

    have you tried disabling this?

settings > video > file lists > replace file names with library titles

  • akpends Mar 03, 2012

Congrats. One note though, I’m having vlc 2.0 as an external player for some selected files and it complained that it couldn’t play a file smb://user:pass@some_host/some/path/some_file.ext. According to the fine documentation http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=External_players those URIs are supposed to be translated on Win32 as \\some_host\…

    Am I missing something obvious?

Again, congrats for the release. Can’t wait for the final.

  • cityhugh Mar 03, 2012

the bug about Foreign language subtitles (srt) still there

  • Nachtaktiv Mar 03, 2012

    @m3g4tr0n

    thanx a lot!
    this is the solution.
translation into german means “show metadata in file-mode”
this “metadata” was a little confusing to me ;-)

  • Peter Galbavy Mar 03, 2012

… what Dave asked. Where are the RC3 images ? There is nothing in the download pages. Have they been pulled ?

    @m3g4tr0n
    @Joe L.
Nice, I had not noticed that the file naming thing was optional. I can’t bring the “..” entry back though (should it be in “settings > video > file lists > ??”), and I hate the fact that it hides my subfolders from view.

  • Ridde Mar 03, 2012

Why does it show some add-on as “broken”?

  • seppo Mar 03, 2012

Crashed after playing file from XBMC Remote on N9

  • Alex Mar 03, 2012

Eden introduced a bug for me that wasn’t there in Dharma: my external monitor doesn’t work, or it only works if I lower the resolution. A workaround is to disconnect the monitor while XBMC is running and then reconnect it.

Apparently Eden insists on changing the resolution, even if the target resolution is the same as the one set before launching it, which makes my monitor go black. Is there a way to disable that?

  • Dave Gnadt Mar 03, 2012

Noticed that music files sound distorted. (Flac and wma) Problem cleared up when I rolled back to 10.1.

  • Bruno Mar 03, 2012

Eden is great. I just have one big problem since beta 1.
When I try to play files from upnp application like ZappoTV on XBMC, it gets locked (app and XBMC) about 30 seconds before start.
I am trying to play a file from XBMC library to the same XBMC. It happens on linux and MAC. I tried another upnp control application and repeats.
If I use a file shared on a WD Live Book NAS it doesn’t happen.
Is anyone else having the same problem?
I will post with more details on forum.

  • Pedram Mar 03, 2012

    @Dave

It’s in the Betas section still. The link is right under the the text “Current Testing Release: 11.0 “Eden” Release Candidate 2″

    Settings->Appearance->File List->Show Parent Folder Items = show “..”
Settings->Appearance->File List->Show Hidden Files and Directories = do not hide sub-directories.

  • Indy-Joe Mar 03, 2012

It’s not auto playing my movies with external subtitles, it always plays with the internal mkv one. I always have to manually select the external one, even if i stop the movie and resume it.

  • Karl Mar 03, 2012

I’ll take my hat off for all you XBMC wizards!

I’ve tested the Win32, the Ubuntu and the XBMCbuntu versions and I’m very impressed.
Already so close to rock solid, and it’s only in the Beta/RC phase.
The gui feels so much more solid and responsive then the old Dharma, especially on low-power cpus. HD Video playback smooth as silk!

    Great job!

  • Sabin Mar 03, 2012

    Thank you!

  • Zilder Mar 04, 2012

    Settings->Appearance->File List->Show Parent Folder Items = show “..”
Settings->Appearance->File List->Show Hidden Files and Directories = do not hide sub-directories.

Sorry, that had zero effect on the issue: I already had the “Show Hidden Files and Directories” option set and it shows the “..” entries nicely everywhere, except in folders where “contextmenu > set content > This directory contains: Movies” is specefies.

My subfolders are plain nornal folders (i.e. they are not named “.mysubfolder” nor are they marked as hidden on the file system), they just disappear from XBMC when “contextmenu > set content > This directory contains: Movies”. Toggling this setting easily reproduces the issue.

HO NOOOOO no me muestra las miniaturas de los nuevos. :(

  • pittrek Mar 04, 2012

I have found a couple of pretty nasty bugs :-(

I have on an external disc a folder called “Babylon 5 movies”, which includes all the Babylon 5 movies. Every movie is in its own subfolder, and has a nfo file with the CORRECT link to the movie description at themoviedb.org

I went to the main folder (Babylon 5 movies), and selected “Set content” from the context menu. These things happened :

    1. – EVERYTHING from my library was DELETED – all movies, all TV shows. Without any warning
    2. – new movies were added to the library. If you think that the correct Babylon 5 movies were added, think again. Instead of the correct movies, completely different movies were added.
    3. – some of the movies which were added to the library are on a completely different disc
    4. – some “bullshit” movie names were added to the library, they are called

    No Correct Way
    Passport to Love
    Passport to Love
    Passport to Love
    Splitz
to delete ———————– this is seriously added to the library
    Videodrome
    Videodrome
    We Joined the Navy

NONE OF THESE MOVIES CAN BE DELETED !!!

All these errors are reproducable – that means, they happen ALWAYS.

  • pittrek Mar 04, 2012

And one more problem – my own DVD rips which I have in mkv container and they have normal PAL DVD resolution (720×576) are identified as HD and have a “720″ icon in their information screen

  • pittrek Mar 04, 2012

OK I have now done a “clean install” (previously I have reinstalled the RC2 over the previous version), and ALMOST all problems are solved.
The ONLY problem which still persists is the last one – my widescreen rips are identified as HD – 720p

  • Big BUG! Mar 04, 2012

@Indy-Joe: Confirmed. I keep my subs external aswell and I am having the same problem. I really don’t want to re-do all my mkv files and take out all the subs in them. That would be a nightmare. The defrag alone would kill the drive.

Is this intentional or a bug????

  • funrob Mar 04, 2012

Since Beta 3 the Videos/Files option is missing and the ‘watched’ state of many tv shows that has changed back to unwatched.

What is the purpose of MyVideos34-60.db sqlite files? I have 7 of them. This build appears to be updating MyVideos34.db the oldest or smallest of them. Tried just using the latest one but ended up with even more missing content.

  • kevin Mar 04, 2012

Since I upgraded from beta3 to rc2 I keep getting the video stuttering.
    Anyone else?.

  • Oracy Mar 05, 2012

Previously I was using RC1, and with RC2 I am getting the error, “Audio failed to initialize…check audiosettings” even though my settings have not changed. I have tried to change several options, updated my soundcard (which works with everything except XBMC), performed a clean install, and to no avail. Has anyone else had any similar problems with the audio after installing this update?

Aside from that, I’d like to thank the whole XBMC team and everyone involved for putting in so much effort.

  • Robert Mar 05, 2012

What to do when it crashes?
I’ve reported a bug a month ago: http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/12584 and can’t see any activity there.
Is there an easy way to disable plugin (I can probably remove plugin file from filesystem or try to edit config files, but that’s last resort, I’d rather disable it from GUI, but don’t know how).

    Regards,
    Robert

  • Frank (NL) Mar 05, 2012

The audio/video bug is still there in RC2. Files play fine on iPad, play fine in Windows Media Player, but not in xbmc. (xvid file)

  • Awal Mar 05, 2012

    Patrick :
    Nice job!

XBMC is a nice but required some options, such as, minimize and maximize button, audio customization in Music section, equalizer and more sound controlling and filtering option especially category for music, movie, video etc….and also file format support option.

  • Dave Mar 05, 2012

Anyone else notice that music files sound distorted? I use flac and wma mostly and many music files sound distorted in either format. If I roll back to 10.1 they are totally clean. I have two apple TVs (1G) and it sounds bad on both with eden. I really hope this gets fixed.

  • skeeter alamo Mar 05, 2012

    @Robert
settings-add ons- enabled add ons- and then disable from there

  • Frank Mar 06, 2012

Good work with rc2 so far, but if I activate the vertical blank synchro, like I’ve done it in dharma I can’t play any videofile without stuttering.
It displays me errors over 1000%. But I want to activate it. What is the problem with it? Why it still worked fine in dharma?

  • Eyal Mar 06, 2012

noticed that every movie that is devided into two CD dont get scrapped.
king kong – CD2 or any movie that starts with a K all get information the same (25 movies with a Chinese name).
is it a problem with the scraper?

  • Per-kele Mar 06, 2012

Tried the Eden RC2 I’m god damn lovin’ it!! A couple of issues I had från Dharma were solved so I’m happy. XBMC is extending it’s lead among htpc media players.

  • furbi963 Mar 06, 2012

yeah, i have the same, i have the same stutter as in RC1 which i didn’t have in beta 2 or beta 3

  • ByBe Mar 06, 2012

Awesome, you guys released this well fast, I can’t wait until it’s fine, wish better driver support came with the XBMC live version but I suppose that’s more of a Ubuntu issue, than the xbmc team. Every time I do a fresh install on my acer revo, I need to fluff around with wifi drivers :|

Keep up the good work guys.

  • Darkness Mar 07, 2012

Horrid update.. well down-date if you ask me.

Lost my entire library, had to rescan the lot and am now missing shows, lost the entire watched history, weather doesnt work, movies and tv eps no longer go to movies or tv eps, the menu options go to a generic listing of options instead of the specified area.

Yuck, back to the older version and hope I dont lose more.

  • sho Mar 07, 2012

  • Mark W Mar 07, 2012

Having issues with MP4′s on Eden RC2. The same videos work fine on an exact replica platform which is still running Darma. Setup is exactly the same on both PC’s, Win7 32, Gigabyte MB, NVidia Gforce2 8500 video card using HDMI connection. The platform running Eden also has VLC installed and the mp4 videos play correctly, so it is definitely Eden that is the problem.

  • FiroPyro Mar 07, 2012

If you have crashes with X/Ubuntu 11.10 (32/64bit) (maybe only Nvidia related) try deinstalling “lightDM” and install “GDM”. This was the only solution which worked for me 100% (ok, lets say for the last ~30 Movies without crashes, before this, I’ve had crashes about every 4-6th Movie).

Would be nice if someone could confirm this.

  • User Mar 07, 2012

After v10.1 the UPNP is broken (changed). In v11 onwards there are no Genre/Artist/Title etc viewing folders displayed on my Media Player only one LARGE list of the Movies. Please Investiaget this! I BEG YOU!

  • maćko Mar 07, 2012

Touchscreen doesn`t work on my aspire 1825ptz with ubuntu; It works fine in other apps.

  • Frank Mar 07, 2012

    Hi There,

i am sorry to say it totally blew my library and i had to do a full deinstall first.
Now it seems to eat up a lot of cpu power and interrupts – switching back to the desktop used
to work fine while XBMC was still running in the background. Now i have to shut it down first
because the system is rendered unusuable while XBMC is running. Haven’t done much testing yet
but the HVSC Sidplayer Plugin doesn’t seem to work anymore either. I am somewhat disppointed
with it being a RC while the beta worked fine for me. Anyway, if the final version is working out
fine, i am looking forward to a donation.

  • OldCheese Mar 08, 2012

    @Darkness
Are you actually trying to blame the update for your loss? I’m a 50 year old computer Noob who handles a shovel with more skill than a keyboard and have discovered a technique called” backing up your library before an update”
You go into video settings and with a few clicks you can magically save all your data.fanarts, actors etcetera.
    Try it some time

  • Anonymous Mar 08, 2012

    @Darkness
It seems like the RCs use a different (version) database than the betas?

  • Nobbynator Mar 08, 2012

All working fine, increase in response. No library issues here, or any other reported issues Nice work team. (promise I’m not gloating)

  • Jason Mar 08, 2012

Few issues that carried over with RC2. Playing videos over the network stutter unless on the original PC. For some reason I am missing a single episode from a TV show. I know it is an RC and still in testing phase. I broke down and installed boxee on the laptop so the videos play without stuttering (hated to do that). Everything else seems to be working great. Once the wireless issue is settled the laptop will get XBMC again. Oh and before anyone else says its the RC it stuttered on the stable version as well 10.1

  • Jason Mar 08, 2012

    @Jason
Also there is no audio on TV shows .m4v

  • Loekie Mar 08, 2012

Ive upgraded to rc2 and now xbmc crashes and restarts when i try to play HD content 720p and 1080p.
Regular avi files play normally. Anyone else got the same problem?

  • DJ Mar 08, 2012

I have the problem where xbmc (win7) crashes when i skipsteps forward during video playback. Anyone else with the same problem?

  • OJ Mar 08, 2012

I’m also having a problem with vertical blank sync. Video plays ok without it, but once i enable it it starts dropping frames like crazy.

  • OJ Mar 08, 2012

    @OJ
Looks like it fixes itself by skipping forwards or backwards. Stopped dropping frames and played nicely after that.

  • Frank (NL) Mar 10, 2012

I went back to beta2 because RC1 and RC2 are way too buggy. All my video’s are on a server so RC2 is useless. RC1 has (like RC2 for that matter) audio/video sync issues. I don’t think they are ‘release candidates’ at all. Beta2 is quite good so I stick with that untill you coders have done your magic. Keep it up, xbmc is still the best out there. I will gladly wait a bit more for that.

  • Stefan Mar 11, 2012

I use RC2 now since the release day and everything is working fine on my PC and Apple TV. I use a centralized MySQL database for my videos and also a centralized share for the thumbnails. But there is one problem. If i wan’t to open my videos in file mode the file browser hangs up when i open a folder which contains a few hundred movies. For example i have a folder called action which consits of a multipath smb share that points to different hard disks in my server. I have to kill the process or to reset my apple tv then and in the next time i wan’t to access my folder everything works fine. Does somebody know how i could solve this problem?

  • nero Mar 11, 2012

Why would anyone take down a popular forum like xbmc on a sunday for maintenance ?????? makes no sense

    • natethomas Mar 12, 2012

Because those doing the switch have to work at paying jobs on Monday?

  • Loekie Mar 11, 2012

The crashes are solved ive disabled the setting ‘allow hardware acceleration vaapi’
Now my HD content plays without problems.

  • sladinki007 Mar 11, 2012

also had to disable the hardware accelaration on my laptop to make it play without stuttering and distorted video…

  • acaymo Mar 12, 2012

Using XBMC 11RC2 on Win7-64pro , database and videos shared on NAS through mysql. Confluence skin. Using Filmaffinity scraper.

When add SOME (only few ones) tv_series to the video library, it automatically marks the main folder(poster) with the mark of “seen” and no one chapter(video file) has been seen. When enter the folder, none chapter is marked… Try to mark the folder as not yet seen but the mark keep there….

  • z0mb13k1ll Mar 13, 2012

I’m having problems with alot of artifacts in my videos since updating from the beta to rc2

  • DNK Mar 13, 2012

I was getting a black screen and audio only some times with RC1 and RC2. And xbmc would stop responding to key presses. Latest unofficial nightly fixed it.

  • GrantD Mar 13, 2012

Love the update, don’t let ungrateful people get you down. I do have a question though…is anyone else having trouble with subtitles embedded in mkv files? Not the hard-coded ones the optional embedded ones. I cant seem to disable them in xbmc anymore. I click on the subtitles icon while playing and it doesn’t look like anything is available.
