Bug-fix Release: 10.1
While we are moving quickly to get new features into 11.0, the time has come for a maintenance release for Dharma. We recommend that all users update to 10.1 as soon as possible to increase stability.
The main focus of this release is to address a bug that could cause XBMC to freeze when updating a skin. We have held back skin updates from the main repository because of this, but now that it is fixed, they will begin rolling out in a few weeks.
This is intended as a bug-fix release only, no new features have been introduced. Notable fixes include:
- If an in-use skin was updated in Windows, XBMC would freeze
- Some RTMP streams in Windows did not play
- Included add-ons have been updated
- The correct referrer is now used for downloading add-ons, improving dependency statistics
- Crashes during playback on ATI hardware in some circumstances have been fixed
- Hardware decoding improvements for OSX
- Various small fixes
In addition, XBMC Live has been updated with the most recent packages, one of which includes a fix for the annoying SMB+Windows Live Essentials bug.
Those interested may check out the full changelog.
Updating
Windows and OSX users should download and install as usual, all user data will be kept intact.
Ubuntu and XBMC Live users can use ‘apt-get update && apt-get install xbmc’ to update.
Finally a fix for the deadly irritating SMB & Win 7 Live Essentials Sign-In Assistant bug! This was such a flaw. Made me loathe Windows Live.
Thank you! And keep up the good work!
Thank you guys so much for making this great piece of software even better!
Hi im not very good with linux i run the live system in my lounge how or where do i enter ‘apt-get install xmbc”
Hey guys,
great job. I´m happy that you are bringing a bug fix release. Keep on work on this great piece of software.
Nice work guys!
Just wondering if there is any plan on updating the ATV2 version to fix the mkv + embedded subs not displaying issue?
Really love what you guys have done over the years, open-source ftw!
I’ve just tried “sudo apt-get install xbmc” to update my XBMC-Live Install and it tells me I have the latest version – 10.0. Am I doing something wrong?
Good news ! I had a lot of problem with my ATI/AMD graphic card and XBMC.
@jason williams
I found it so any noobs like me hit ” Ctrl+Alt+F2 ” login with you user name and password.
Great! Thanks for all the hard work guys!
This update is also for apple tv?
Ubuntu say that i have the newest version! but it’s on 10.0 it won’t update!
@luisfra
ok sorry for some reason the repo was disable!!
Fantastic work as usual. Can’t wait to get my hands on an ATV2 for the kids bedroom.
No new features have been introduced means that BluRay ISO support is not included? Otherwise I would say it’s pretty notable and worth mentioning.
on cydia i dont seem to be pulling an update? the version in there says 10.0-7; were these updates applicable to the iOS port as well?
We use the traditional meaning of the word ‘no’.
n00bs (like me) using live need to write “sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install xbmc” to get the update :-)
If you’re running apt-get update and then apt-get upgrade, and you are not running 10.1, that means your distribution packagers have not yet packaged 10.1. apt-get update will update your available packages database and mark upgrades. apt-get upgrade will upgrade your installed packages. Both commands are essential in the process.
Ubuntu relies on it’s users to package software distributions. If the package maintainers have not packaged it, then it is not yet available. Keep in mind that packagers usually have a priority system. The most important things are security updates, then core fixes, then new packages. It is not a high priority item to upgrade XBMC. Wait a few days for aptitude.
The official version can be obtained from this website. Click downloads at the top of this screen.
Excellent, saw this come through the PPA yesterday and was looking for the change-log. Thanks for the bug-fixes!
hmmm…. just updated to 10.1 (win version on win 7) and my movies and tvshows where gone. They where still available as source but the content wasn’t set anymore. Reverting back to the nightly I had installed from 05 mar solves the problem
Great work, guys.
Already updated all my systems and everything went as expected.

Even with this bug-fix release, Dharma player is still stuttering some videos in Linux, when the very same videos at the very same hardware play absolutely and perfectly smooth when reverting to 9.11 Camelot. But I guess skin problems in Windows platform are way more urgent than playing movies, so… too bad. Congratulations for the excellent work on 9.11 Camelot, though.
Ok, how to update on iOS Apple TV, or is this update not yet available?
You guys are so great. Thanks to everyone involved in this project!
Live is still based on an old version of Ubuntu. There’s a newer stable release out with support for current network adapters etc. Also, do not expect LVM to work.
=) thanks spiff, got the message
Bug fixes are great, but a special update to handle a minor skin issue? I don’t change skins every day (never really) and so it hardly represents a priority for me to update my software. It’s a shame we’ll have to wait for 11.0 or maybe even longer to get any kind of meta-tag support for (M4V) videos. I was hoping given that it’s a minor issue (since the music tag reader works with video tags as well if you rename them into music files) that we might see it sooner rather than later, but frankly I doubt it. It’s the one major feature keeping me from dumping iTunes/Apple software (although I’d have to move to ATV2 units since XBMC cannot handle 720p on ATV Gen1 for unknown reasons) and being able to use my 3TB drive on my router as an NAS style share instead of having to have my computer on 24/7. Given the general time frames involved in major XBMC releases (i.e. in regards to the comment about “new” features having to wait until 11.0), I’m guessing a tiny feature like that might be a year or more away. Back to Apple I go.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc-svn/ppa
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc
Just wanted to add I updated XBMC Live this morning. No problems at all, went smoothly. The skin fix was long overdue. Looking forward to version 11.
@Kujo
Just a FYI, linux/live/osx have not needed it, its only windows which did need it. Ofcourse with it present no skins for the other platforms could be released :)
Heads up can’t update from night build to 10.1 will lose all ability to create show and movie list and will lose all previous data.
@JD Fraser
That’s a downgrade, and there’s quite a big warning to that effect on the download page ;)
@topfs2
Really? I noticed after skin updates of an active skin, XBMC would either reset, and switch back to Confluence, or the skin would become somewhat distorted (some colors/backgrounds/menu’s would be messed up), so you would have to change to another skin, and then switch back again.
Apple TV update?
Keep up good work
THX
@Kujo
Well we reloaded skin I’m sure but you should not have any deadlock problems as with windows. Linux and OS X allows for deletion of in use resources (it waits to do the real delete until any in-use is done). If it helped with the upgrade thats good though, perhaps we fixed an unknown problem as well :)
Could someone tell me if this update applies to ATV2 users??
And how do you update XBMC on ATV2? or does XBMC on ATV@ automatically update?
I know there are people out there with the same confusion….
@Kujo
Thank you Kujo, that did it for me! Legend!
@topfs2
Yeah, locking up was not an issue at all. What I described is how I knew the skin had been updated. :) To be honest, it didn’t happen all the time.
As several people have already asked, is this update compatible with Apple TV 2???????????
Thank you guys!
Works great here..
installed 10.1 on vista 32, still got the same issues on my ati 3200 display card that i’ve had since upgrading from xbmc 9,
sometimes the driver crashes, at times the whole system just hangs.
using the latest ati drivers.

And now XBMC crashes every time I start a video. Not what I had expected or hoped for.
Box is running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server, 32 bit
Any hints or help would be greatly appreciated.

Still stutters on ion. Back to 9.11 which works fine.
Works great for me; although I never had any problems previously in fairness… thanks to all the devs.
@Kujo
Is this to update ATV2?
@all devs
Thanks for all your effords.
I updated yesterday and it works fine. Is it a bug that no longer a build number will be shown inside the xbmc.log ?
