You asked for it: XBMC for AppleTV2, iPad, iPhone4.

The XBMC team is proud to present our first ARM-based release, and it’s a big one. Scott Davilla, with the help of Edgar (gimli) Hucek and Zeljko (amet) Ametovic and several other developers and testers, is finally ready to pull the curtain off of his fun little secret.
You know that $99 tiny form-factor powerhouse that would be just perfect if it could only run XBMC? Now it can.
Or how about that iPad that is just begging to be used as a real portable media center? Now it can.
And while we’re at it, put your iPhone4 to work using XBMC as well. Why? Because we can.
These are not initial ports, and they are not early development snapshots. Here they are: full XBMC installs and source code, ready for consumption.
AppleTV2
This thing may fit in your pocket, but don’t underestimate its power. Unfortunately, it is seriously lacking in capability due to its limited feature-set revolving around rentals and iTunes. Where’s the fun in that?

iPad/iPhone4
What good is a tablet that makes you play by its rules? We at XBMC want our media our way.

Availability
As you might have guessed, you won’t be seeing XBMC in the app-store any time soon, since it directly competes with apple products. XBMC will only be installable for those of you with jailbroken devices. If that’s you, head to the wiki for instructions for the atv2 or ipad/iphone.

Has anyone had luck making this work on an apple tv2? I’ve managed to jailbreak mine amazingly enough but there seems to be a lot of incomplete and inconsistent instruction.
its deff not worth the effort at the moment. Much much easier and quicker to remux the MKV’s to M4V
First – hats off, this is is an amazing accomplishment and you guys deserve a lot of credit for pushing the xbmc platform forward (and investing a lot of time doing so)!!!
I have both an ipad and an iphone 4 and can’t wait until the final release of the untethered jailbreak for the ipad is released so that I can install this. However, does it have support for the livetv plugins, such as tvheadend? If so, my wife will love it as she can bring the morning tv with her around the house in the morning…
WOW that was easy, i went to BestBuy bought one, in under 45min i was up and running XBMC and that includes the jailbreak. Great work. Cant wait for more releases.
Great, so you got XBMC running on closed systems. How about porting to the Playstation3 now? Heck, I’ll even buy it if you have to publish it on the PS Store with an official dev licence.
Good job guys! I always enjoyed XBMC on my old xbox. When i saw this article i smiled and directly ordered the aTV2. In a few hours i got XBMC working.
Keep up the good work!
Damn, 8 pages of questions, many of which were repeated like every 5 posts, and hardly any answers. Thanks god that guy got an answer to how to switch the temperature from F degrees to C.
I don’t see how this can even be used… no storage on the ATV2, and apparently the USB port is worthless.
Great job!
Works great on iPad!
Streaming from my satellite dreambox without a pc, LOVE it!
AND 720P without a problem.
I have been a fan of XBMC since years back first with XBOX and now on my HTPC.
Must say that you guys are really doing a great job and i will start Contribute to this great product!
@Brent212
There is 8gb storage in the ATV2
Great job!
But I believe you shouldn’t advertise it as a ready software as is being done in the media. As a XBMC fan, at the moment I saw the possibility at the main page and researched in some forums and sites I spent about U$ 200 on a Apple TV2 (in my country it’s imported it has higher prices than the US$ 98 you are used to).
I spent some days to figure out its setup and finally when I tested the first movies that are on my database I found out lack of video performance, many instabilities on skin and accessing network storage.
I know it’s still under development for Apple TV2 and I’m glad that you are sharing with us the application but my unique point is that you should be clear that it’s not stable enough yet. I bought an Apple TV2 to put XBMC on it with the intention to give to my father the same video database I use at my home with a XBMC on an iMac connected to my TV, but my conclusion is that it’s not a stable solution to install at his home. If I knew beforehand its performance I would have bought another cheaper box with a simple file list interface and would give up XMBC interface.
@Brent212
Do you see the support link on the top?
I can understand it was critical to switch to C considering that you see no use of the app at all….
@Brent212
It’s perfect for my setup, atv2 hooked up to NAS as a secondary HTPC… 100$ and tiny form factor, it works great.
@Brent212
Are you really that foolish? (and all the others complaining that they aren’t getting answer!)
This is a COMMENTS section. The article is a news piece – the Comments are for commenting (surprisingly enough) on the news piece. eg saying “well done”, and the like.
If you have questions you want answered, go the the forum!!! Or do you just want to be spoon-fed without actually having to do anything yourself?!
And your question about what the point is without local storage is beyond the pale… do you know anything about XBMC?
