XBMC 9.11: RC1 ready for testing

December 17th, 2009 Team XBMC

The testing process is winding down, and we are happy to present XBMC 9.11 Release Candidate 1. Assuming there are no major show-stoppers, we expect that this will be the last pre-release before final. That means that this is your last chance to report major bugs, or to help us reproduce or fix the ones that have been identified. If you have submitted a trac ticket and we’ve asked for further assistance, this is the time to help! For those not bold enough to try the pre-releases, watch this site in the coming days for a summary of the new features you can expect to see in Camelot.

The same speech still applies; we’re still looking for quality bug reports and good translations. Also please use the proper channels if you wish to be helped, not the comments below.

See the download page for RC1.

    Would be nice to be able to see a list of changes since the previous pre-release. A little link on this page to the CHANGELOG would have been nice.

    Thank you!

    Good work!

  6. December 17th, 2009 at 06:21 | #6

    Can one request a related campaign suggestion to the team for the final release news story, to try to publicly motivate as many users as possibe to update the XBMC article on wikipedia.org for their own language?

    Wikipedia’s non-english articles about XBMC are all in need of much more information.

    The English article about XBMC on wikipedia could also do with some adding of references.

    Though I have still beta2 installed I have this popping bug too on some sources with stereo sound.
    I have ALC662 using optical out. Would be great if this could be fixed.

    Except this bug beta 2 is perfect ! Great work ! Tthink I will wait for the final than.

    @Jimbo : indeed, Team XBMC, you should number it 9.12 XMas Edition ;)

    The audio gets messed up after playing 5 to 10 songs using the Digital ( Coax or Optical port ) … In XBMC 9.11 Beta2 ( dunno about this RC1 )
    I figure “dfmos” is referring to the same problem in comment #6.

    This is really frustrating

    Is there any way to make a “deep scan” ( e.g. subfolder scan ) for all folder in “Picture” mode ?
    ( The same as you can do for “Video” mode … ) – to make the XBMC create all the thumbnails in the beginning

    Didn’t see where in the http://trac.xbmc.org I could report this, so please take a look at this.-

    WMV files are still broken. But that bug was reported a year ago, so my guess is it won’t be fixed for release.

    @gharf
    See the ticket. Elupus has asked for a sample because he can’t reproduce, but none has been provided. We can’t fix what we can’t see.

    @Paul
    Clearly not all wmv files are broken. If you have some specifics, please submit a ticket or contribute to one that has been submitted.

    @Smacker
    You need to login to trac to submit a ticket. Use your forum logon (case sensitive).

    @ChUdY
    Thanks for the video :)

    Not sure if I should submit a ticket as it may not be a bug but the Movie Sets feature has broken from the previous beta to this release candidate. Perhaps the code was removed in a backport

    Well…I just don’t get it: Where is Confluence?
    I did a fresh installation of the xbmc_RC1 – and what is it I have to see? Confluence is gone…
    Thought it would be a good idea to upgrade my beta to rc… after backing up my personal folder, I updated the xbmc… and what comes? The Confluence-Skin is totaly destroyed, all the pictures gone, the whole library missing, etc.
    What the hell?

    theuni –> This post indicates something I guess

    “Changed 8 days ago by fuathurio ¶
    I’ve noticed this issue with much of the content on Revision 3, diggnation specifically. That is pretty easily available for testing.”

    Don’t know what it means though

    This post indicates someone whants to post a sample but dosen’t know how

    “Changed 8 days ago by narkotic ¶
    I have the same issue and can show it on a copy of “There Will Be Blood” that I got from the newsgroups (1080p – DTS) which is around 16gb. How can I make a sample and where can I upload it to?”

    December 18th, 2009 at 05:02 | #23

    I concur with theuni. Instead of complain about issues not being fixed. POST A TRAC TICKET WITH DEBUG LOG AND SAMPLES!

    For the 24Hz issue, create a sample, upload to rapidshare or equivalent site, inlude a debug log for the sample.

    How can bugs be fixed if they are not reported or oterwised assisted?

    I’m running Live Beta 2 at the moment and it runs perfectly. Is it possible to upgrade by typing a command into the console, as opposed to a complete reinstall? If not, then I’m not changing :)

    Obviously most people are too lazy to post a trac ticket (I include myself in this group). The rest, are simply scared of doing it wrong or duplicating an issue and incurring the wrath of the devs and forumers for wasting their time (I also include myself in this group!).

    @Netizen
    Something tells me it’s not gonna report/fix itself, as said before.
    Just follow the “How to report a problem in a useful manner” guideline and you’re done.

    Ticket 5089 was opened well over a year ago and updated constantly since. The vast majority of WMV files are broken for everybody running XBMC and boxee. Not just one specific config, everybody.

    Hi again,

    Regarding my post #13

    I found out what the problem was …
    The problem is gone when I changed from ‘default’ under AUDIO, to “IEC958″ did the trick.
    Now the digital restortion is gone :-)
    Just wanted to post this positive comment. So far BETA2 is running 100% stable for me, but as with BETA1
    I can’t turn my XBMC to 720p ! It always wants to run in 1920 x 1080 @ 50Hz – Full Screen. ( which is INTERLACED, because my TV is 720p/1080i … not 1080p ). I don’t know how I can change it to 720P inside XBMC new versions ( I always used “720p” setting in old XBMC’s ) !?!?

    Regards

    Anyone else having trouble downloading XBMC Live for RC1? I keep getting stuck at 288 MB (out of 488) downloaded. I’ve tried several different mirrors.

    I had this same problem with Beta 2 also.

    Thanks

    December 19th, 2009 at 13:19 | #32

    I know this is not the channel to report bugs. It’s just a comment. when I narrow down the issues I will post on trac.

    I just did an update installation over Beta2 (windows version) as I did before with beta 1. And, at a first glance I’ve gone far back… Just a sample:

    Transparency is not showing any images. Just menus.
    The same happens for confluence.
    All Libraries are gone.
    I have also an issue with screen resolution. Before pressing alt-enter went from windowed to 1080p (the max resolution of my hdmi tv). Now it goes to 720p. Weird. Of course, because of this all the overscaning options I had to touch in my ati drivers are not working properly so xbmc doesn’t look right (botton-right part of screen is cut)

    As I said, I just installed and have to analize all, before reporting as bugs (maybe it just was my bad)

    I just wanted to leave a small note for those that are happy with beta2 and think (like I did) that rc1 is just a bunch of bug fixes… If you are not just a tester maybe you are better staing with beta2.

    Hi there!
    Just updated from Beta2 to RC1 … then I replaced the whole “UserData” ( including subfolders ) with the one from Beta2,
    but I lost all my settings for stuff like IEC958 ( resetted to “default” ), the language/region settings, Weather(which city), and needed to re-calibrate the screen … where is this config stuff located if not under UserData\xxxxx.xml ??? I replaced all these files which were properly configged in the Beta2 as already stated, but still I had to re-configure this stuff after the installation of RC1 ( which worked without any problem by the way ).

  34. jurrabi
    December 19th, 2009 at 13:32 | #34

    Just to update.
    I just reinstalled beta2 over RC1 and everything went to normal.
    I’ll update to RC1 in other system, not the living room one, later to help with the bug fixing.

    Jur.

  35. December 19th, 2009 at 17:15 | #35

    @jurrabi: No images in skins and a screwed up library indicates you loaded 9.04.x rather than 9.11 RC1.

    For support please go to the forums.

    VDPAU is not working for me correctly in RC1 I think :-(
    It worked flawlessly under BETA2 though … now the movement of HD stuff is really weird … sometimes it speeds up for e.g. 2 seconds, and then slows down again to normal and does all kinds of nasty stuff.
    Using the XBMC LIVE image, RC1. Going back to Beta2! Sound though Coax/Optical, movie through HDMI.

    I can confirm that VDPAU is not working for me on RC1, but it works flawlessly under Beta2,
    I’ll try to post the details in the http://trac.xbmc.org … I’m using Zotac Ion motherboard, and I’ve been able to watch fullBlown 1080p **before** the RC1, but it’s simply not using the VDPAU alhtough I select it in this RC1 version. The CPU level goes very high when decoding this material, but in beta2 it’s around 5-7% load on the CPU ( which confirms that it’s NOT using the VDPAU in RC1 ).
    I switched back to Beta2, and it’s working 100% there.

    Please update XBMC Live distro with the latest LIRC release, that is currenty version 0.8.6 which unfortunatly didn’t come with Ubuntu 9.10, plus also upgrade module lirc_it87, that way the media center remote and CIR receiver that comes with the very popular Asus P4-P5N9300 can work out-of-the-box in XBMC Live without requiring manual updates from unexperienced Linux users.

    kalimero has posted configuration intructions in the forum, see the few modifications required:
    http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=47651&page=8

    Loads of people have like me bought the Asus P4-P5N9300 as a HTPC just to run XBMC Live.

    Will this version be compatible with *ubuntu Karmic-Koala? I haven’t tried installing the previous version on there, as I read that it’s not supported. And I’m eager to try this out on Karmic…
