XBMC 9.11: Beta2 ready for testing

December 9th, 2009 Team XBMC

Development for Camelot is winding down, and we have a new beta for all brave users to try. We have closed just under 200 bugs since the last beta (to be fair, some of those were translations and other small patches). That is an impressive number, thanks to all who have reported their issues. As we are feature frozen, nothing new has been added this time around, we’re purely focusing on fixing bugs.

As always, head on over to the download page for the latest and greatest. The Ubuntu PPAs will be updated soon. Give it a go, and be sure to submit quality bug reports if you have any issues. Also, please keep great the translations coming!

Please Note: The comment section below is NOT a support forum. You are welcome to voice your concerns here but please use the proper channels if you wish to be helped.

Great work guys. Tested the last beta and found it great looking and functioning good enough to keep. Coming from Plex though, I miss the auto update function. How do I update to beta 2 while keeping all settings, aswell as the library?

    Thx for Beta2. I have 2 concern.

1- Setup Installer not not allow to disable skin settings. Maybe I want to install only Confluence skin :)
2- Installer not add program menu to “user” program menu.

  5. December 10th, 2009 at 00:54 | #5

@Bernt: Just install beta 2 over the top of beta 1. XBMC doesn’t overwrite your settings or library.

I’m very satisfied with Beta 1. Thanks for your hard working.

And, is there anyway that I can simplly copy Beta 1’s settings to a fresh install Beta 2? I remember there’s source.xml and guisettings.xml , but not working for me when i install beta 1 :(

Since we’re starting to see work on PowerPC does that mean we’ll see this come to the 360 eventually?

  10. December 10th, 2009 at 06:02 | #10

Your “download” link is broken; it’s a relative link, so it points to either http://xbmc.org/team-xbmc/2009/12/download or http://xbmc.org/team-xbmc/download, depending on where we’re reading the post, i.e. not to the right URL in any case…

    Cheers for the new beta.

Very good build…Fixes almost all of the issues that I had. Still the fastrewind button, fastforwards movies instead.

    Good work devteam.

I have a question, I filed this bug http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/7901 for the XBMC 9.11 Beta1 version. I now installed the XBMC 9.11 Beta2 but the problem still exists and unfortunately this bug is not solved (this was a small disappointment) What should I do next, should I wait and hope this bug is fixed in the final version, or should I refile the same bug for version XBMC 9.11 Beta2 ? (I can succesfully play those videos on the current stable XBMC 9.10) Can someone advise me what I should do ?

    Kr,

    Matthijs

  21. December 10th, 2009 at 17:26 | #21

(sorry I mean I can succesfully play those videos on current stable XBMC 9.04.1 (instead of 9.10) )

  22. December 10th, 2009 at 20:13 | #22

    @mechamoto
Already? We’re three days late according to our “play it by ear” schedule. ;)

    @Matthijs
You should update your ticket with your findings in b2. As the post says, these comments are NOT a place for support requests.

Thanks all for the new version, it is looking great and working like a charm, very smooth operation and the DX player really makes a huge difference on a Windows system.

The VERSION_STRING inside the subversion trunk still shown as alpha 2
    https://xbmc.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/xbmc/trunk/xbmc/utils/GUIInfoManager.h

Or is there any other place that carry the version information?
As with this condition people that compile from subversion will carry the version as alpha2 in the XBMC System Info

  29. December 11th, 2009 at 04:23 | #29

@peprasetya: Builds since beta 1 come out of the camelot branch which obviously have the correct system information details. Once Camelot is out we’ll update the version in trunk as needed.

Hmm, i just noticed the check symbol next to some of my clips. Is this new in beta2 or didn’t i pay attention when i had the beta1?

anywho, i love the new beta. Confluence is the best thing since 3G internet!

I love the new version and have a question. I am currently using XBMC Live B2 and cannot figure out what button to use on my MCE remote to get the context menus. In the Alphas and B1 it was the Play button. When pressing Play in B2, it is playing the media file.

    @commanderflash

It appears that the Guide button now works for this function.

Much faster than 9.0.4, very responsive, love it!

However it still has the CPU load problem (XP version). Any time it is idle the CPU goes 50%. Playing an H264 movie, CPU load is around 10%. Pause the movie, back to 50%. Besides using more power and making the fans go faster unnecessarily, this also causes my on-the-fly TV recording to fail sometime, so I can’t actually leave XBMC on all the time, I have to exit it when I’m done. Quite annoying in a media center setup where I want to only use the remote.

    December 12th, 2009 at 01:39 | #38

Oh, and there’s a small problem with auto thumbnails (the ones extracted from the movie) not working properly. They were there in 9.0.4, disappeared in this version and sometimes I could make them appear for a while by disabling fan art, but exiting then going back into the directory, they’re gone again replaced by the stock movie thumb.

  39. December 12th, 2009 at 05:55 | #39

@laurentiu: Go to the forums for support. For your 50% issue, your video card drivers likely busy-wait on Flip(). Switch to windowed mode and the CPU will reduce, so you have a couple of options: The fullscreen window instead of true fullscreen, and/or adding in the advancedsetting set to about 0.85 or so.

Amazing sw! Tested both B2 and B1 and 9.04.
I have to use 9.04 still because the Pictures part seem to hang in both B1 and B2.
What amazes me is that it runs on almost no hardware at all. The old PC I am using is 10 years old and had a low spec even then!
(I did upgrade the graphics card though.)

  41. December 12th, 2009 at 08:40 | #41

Loaded beta 2 on Win 7 and installed with no issues. No issues with streaming video content. Really love the Confluence skin. Using a media gate remote and having trouble finding the correct remote button to bring up sub menus for “scanning new content, etc…” Just completed looking at the new Boxee version and have to tell you that XBMC is still way better!

  42. December 12th, 2009 at 08:42 | #42

Had an issue with beta 1 slowing down playback but once i loaded beta 2 over it it worked fine. There is an issue with the iplayer plugin but i assume the vendor is going to update this once camelot becomes a full release. Have to say though folks, superb release and that new skin is the best yet. Keep it up folks.

This sw is absolutely fantastic, it’s the best solution for HTPC, smoother than MP and better working than w7 WMC
I would like it to have live tv, bcs now I have to use different sw to watch tv, but I’ll live in hope ^^
Keep up a good work ;)

Any word on the ETA for Camelot Stable?

  45. December 12th, 2009 at 17:24 | #45

Just updating to it, hopefully fixes my small sound issue on Arch.

One request, are there release notes anywhere? It would be nice to know what’s new

Great work! Best of what I tried for HTPC in the last year. Beta 2 has some issue though…
I am running it on Windows Server 2008 r2 x64 and it hangs on me every time I try to play mp3 from SMB mounted library. It doesn’t happen with Beta 1. DVD seems to play ok, though.
Typically it starts playing MP3 but UI is frozen. I can stop play back with stop button and that’s it. If I start beta 1 from different directory (I think I installed it before 2008 r2 installation) – everything works.
    Thanks

I bet we wont manage to stay away from the SVN versions very long after the stable version is out anyway – there are already features around the corner that will become must haves! ;) But still stable versions sure help the project to stabilize (duh) the product so that it’ll reach even greater heights and reinforce it’s quality feeling. Thank you (developers, contributors, and the community) for making this happen, and keep up the good work! :)
