Upcoming XBMC 'Atlantis' release and feature freeze [UPDATED]

August 12th, 2008 Team XBMC

Today Team-XBMC have now officially hit a feature freeze in anticipation of an upcoming stable release of XBMC, codenamed ‘Atlantis’. XBMC Atlantis will be released on Linux, Mac, Windows and Xbox simultaneously in about 2 months time. You may track the development progress here.

In order to make this release as stable as possible, we will need your help in testing XBMC and reporting bugs to trac. We would also appreciate any and all assistance in making sure that the XBMC online manual and FAQ is as up-to-date as possible (both the manual and FAQ are wiki-based so just register, if you haven’t already, and request for write access). In addition, translations and updates of the language files is another area where help would be appreciated.

*UPDATE* The first Alpha version, “Alpha 3″, has been released for all platforms. We encourage all XBMC users to use this release instead of SVN builds, thoroughly test it and report all bugs.

Yours sincerely / Team-XBMC

I’ve been building weekly from SVN and poring over the code little by little, and stand (actually, I am seated) amazed at the elegance and excellence of this project! I have several friends asking me to build set-top boxes with XBMC, and I’ll be happy to oblige when Atlantis is stable.

I’ve downloaded and will thoroughly test this release. You guys rock!

I have also been using XBMC for over 2 years now (on the xbox) and it really is the greatest looking and feature rich media center software I’ve ever used. I recently upgraded to an HDTV and was concerned i might have to give up XBMC altogether due to my need to stream hd content now.

This really is great news and I have downloaded the alpha for pc and so far it’s been running great. I just want to say that your continual updates to XBMC and the way you listen to the community and take their suggestions into consideration is what makes XBMC so great. Keep up the great work. Your efforts are appreciated.

Interesting things going on. Watching a movie/TV show on a PC is just not natures way. On with hacking the set-top box! Now there are “new” set-top boxes out. I only hope there’s a back door in one of them. I’d probably already own a 360 if XBMC could load on it. Anyone taken apart a roku?

Im used XBMC for over 2 years on the xbox, now my friend moved out and I had to search a new solution. Tried a lot of MC’s on my XC Cube (AOpen) and didn’t get lucky with one. Then I saw that you guys released on Windows, since one week im a happy owner of a new xbmc windows media center. Thanks you guys a lot!!

For years I was experimenting with the early releases of mythtv, freevo and a few others. Then I stumbled across xbmc a few years back. I absolutely love it. It is the front end for my carpc because it is very touchscreen friendly. It is loaded onto the two xbox’s I bought just to use this software. Now it is loaded on four htpc’s distributed throughout my house for HD goodness. Nothing I have tried has ever come close to the excellence you guys have created. Keep up the good work! I can’t wait for the stable version.

Thank god this is just what I have been waiting for, I cant believe its on windows and working. Since having it on xbox for years, and recently ditching due to unsupported HD these new versions are like a dream come true. Thanks you, keep up the good work!
