XBMC 11.0 - Eden
It’s been over a year in the works and today we are excited to announce that XBMC 11.0 is finally ready and available for download. You can find XBMC 11.0 here.

XBMC 11.0 Milestones include Addon Rollbacks, vast improvements in Confluence (the default skin), massive speed increases via features like Dirty-region rendering and the new JPEG decoder, a simpler, better library, movie set scraping, additional protocol handling, better networking support, better handling of unencrypted BluRay content and structures, adjustable display refresh rate in OSX (to match the already available feature in Windows and Linux), AirPlay support, an upgraded weather service with geoip lookup, and much, much more. Check out the highlights in the summarized changelog.
In addition to our many software improvements, we’ve increased our reach in the realm of hardware support since Dharma was released. Eden marks the first in-sync stable release for the Apple TV2, iPad, and other iOS devices. We’ve vastly improved the method by which we handle input, including heavily upgrading JSON-RPC support, making remote control support much, MUCH simpler in Windows, and enabling unique methods of device communication with hardware. And now even AMD devices are supported for GPU video decoding in Linux to some extent, thanks to the inclusion of VAAPI.
Beyond XBMC 11 for Windows, Linux, OSX, and iOS, we are also happy to announce XBMCbuntu Final.
XBMCbuntu is very similar to past versions of XBMC Live. By default, the user boots directly into XBMC, and if he/she chooses, he or she will never see the underlying OS. However, unlike Live, XBMCbuntu is now built upon a full LXDE desktop environment, which has a web browser (Chromium) with a fully updated (and updatable) version of Flash built-in and a GUI package manager ready to install and update all of the normal Ubuntu programs a typical Linux user might use. The user may now toggle between XBMC, which auto-starts, and a normal desktop if he or she chooses. And, perhaps most exciting for many users, XBMC will now be upgradeable, both from command line and from the GUI package manager, without fear of crashing the XBMC experience.
Naturally, those users who do not want to see the desktop will never need to. When you boot your computer, you will be booted directly into the XBMC homescreen, just as you are right now. The only clear difference is the new power underneath the hood. Those users who have already installed the Beta version of XBMCbuntu can upgrade to final using the apt-get upgrade commands.
There are truly an incredible number of updates and improvements between Dharma and Eden. But don’t take our word for it. Download XBMC 11.0 Eden now.

strangely not the Airport is working with the play music from my iphone 4, photos and videos will usually … someone with this problem?

I can’t get past the splash screen without it whitescreening, and I can’t force close it. I have to log off and then back on. Kind of annoying. Any way to fix this.
Why is my comment on moderation list?
Thanks guys! Shared database upgrade did not go smoothly during upgrade (I ended up deciding to drop the DBs) from Dharma but I’d exported DB so it wasn’t too much hassle to re-import. Note to those in same situation: remember to edit your advancedsettings.xml to add true to videolibrary section.
my previous comment didn’t format correctly due to xml; below is what I meant, hopefully you get the idea
importwatchedstate true importwatchedstate
WOW! From before to Eden iOS was like night and day! Retina display, super responsive, EVERYTHING is better!!!!!!!!
Hi,
Is it possible to load XBMC on a Toshiba STROR.E TV+?
The device is controllable by a remote control only, and features FE and WiFi-N connections, 2 USB ports (one of them used with the WiFi dongle), digital & analog audio, analog video as well as HDMI port, a SD/MS card reader and a small LCD display for basic info / browsing path.
The original Toshiba software is kinda lame, so this would really make it work like a real media player :).
Thanks.
I just downloaded the windows version of xbmc 11.0 and after installation I started it , but what … I could not find any Music section in this skin. why? how can one listen audio songs???
I am able to play only video files.

Again, Thanks for everyone making it possible to have an open source media player. Thanks
Absolutely awesome. Amazing job and loving the update so far. Can’t wait to try the AirPlay streaming actually! (just waiting for xbmc commander on my iPhone and iPad to update now.
Great stuff guys. Appreciate the effort. And all these for free.
One question, anyone got the other skins to work beside the default Confluence?
I tried the skin add-on and installed Transparency, but it didn’t replace the default after completion.
Worked flawlessy, upgraded my revo3700 via sudo apt-get…. etc, 5mins later and voila. Loving you guys !!! Best software I’ve ever used, you have no idea how many people I’ve converted :) Keep up the good work. PVR next :)
cool but whitout sound on acer revo 3700 tryed alsamixer -c1 to unmute .. didn´t work no i search eden beta 3.
thanx folks, great software!
There is a PVR version in the wiki.. It is updated with ever release, if u can’t find it let me know
@nayr
I have the same problem since eden on my win 7 64 bit notebook
Just posting to say, XBMCbuntu is working wonderfully on my setup. I did a fresh install (all my media is on a separate hard drive) and XBMC just worked right off the bat. It even correctly configured my HDMI audio out which I usually have to manually configure. Congratulations on the release. I can’t say enough good things about XBMC and the community.
hi,
is there any way to update XBMCBUNTU beta to EDEN 11 XBMCBUNTU using CLI
New confluence is very poor aesthetically. The layout and visual balance of various views is all wrong, the tacky green/blue res flags, the crap XBMC logo on a dull grey bar on the bottom. Even the horizontal menu has problems, when you are on ‘Movies’ and press down to go to the sub-bar, it should go to the middle item instead of the left one.
Ergonomically and aesthetically it is just a disaster.
@nayr
same here, win 7 4 bit
We have plenty of other skins that people can choose from if they dislike the default one.
Not to mention that nothing stops you from creating a new skin, which would suit your needs. Of course that’s much harder to do than to complain…
EDEN 11.0, Fantastic! I just love XBMC as a media player! My highest praise goes to all you fine programmers who make this free software. I have been using XBMC for about a year, I have never had any problems installing and running XBMC, never lost any media. I’ve done upgrade installs, clean installs, and XBMC just works. I have developed some favourite settings. I absolutetly love Transparency skin. My only problem with it is I can’t keep up with gathering all the “EYE CANDY” fanart for all the new movies and TV series I download. If I did, I’d have no time to watch them! Too much candy, too little time! “Weather Plus” is my favourite weather addon. It is very informative, weather map and all.
I download tonight’s TV series tomorrow and watch it tomorrow night – without commercials! Now that beats OTA TV, Sat TV, Cable TV hands down! Movies are downloaded or rented & MKV’ed to the hard drive. They are a pleasure to watch, pause for a snack break or pit stop break, then continue watching without missing a frame. You XBMC programmers have made my retirement like heaven.
So, THANKS AGAIN FOR SUCH A FINE MEDIA PLAYER!
You must go to skin settings – home window settings, unhide the music library
Just wanna say heads up to all the great programmers at XBMC. You guys are the best when it comes to media center in my opinion. I’m just loving it…. XBMC all the way…. Thanks to you all.
Thank you very much !!! :)
Can anyone show me how to manually add video to library? I only have “Update library” button on Video context menu when right click on a video in Files mode.
I would first like to thank everyone involved in the project XBMCBUNTU, I think very important we exchange information and experiences, that is how the project evolved and matured. always easier to lay more. I would like to take these people to ask relevant, add an audio in the GUI configurator. and much as it would help people, wireless configurator, configurator bluetooth. have control of the pulse-and eight-pump adapter or USB could not support them XBMCBUNTU the original installation, I had to install over the version xbmcfreak and then pulse-eight PVR version. I think that is very easy for you guys add this in XBMCBUNTU. Once again thank you for the attention of all.
Let the best program he is very good ..
Thank you ..
This is an awesome release. After using it for a bit, I can tell a lot went under the hood. XBMC is so much more smoother and quicker compared to previous builds. Great work guys.
Just tried to run XbmcBuntu on my old 2.53 P4 and its useless. It looks real pretty but it takes at least dual core i’m assuming. I’m not ready to build another PC, I don’t really like many games after ‘04 so this one is perfect. It handles XP and Linux Mint and 1Tb worth of music and video without hiccup. But who knows I might Build A modern Computer. Ill get back if I do.
Thank you for all your efforts to make XBMC. It is a very good product. However, the new XBMCbuntu-11.0.iso (linux) seems to be a CPU hog with xbmc.bin constantly over 90%. The previous (ubuntu linux) version sits under 10% CPU on DELL Dimension 4800 using Radeon 9550 AGP card. The new version is over 90% CPU on the same hardware. I am testing XMBC on many older hardware: 2.8G P4, 1G RAM & AGP video cards (not PCIe). I have many of these older motherboards/machines and have tried 11.0 on many video cards nvidia and ATI. The CPU issue with 11.0 seems directly related to the video chipset as it has low CPU on the inbuilt Intel chipset on the DELL 4800. I suspect the X server is involved as I constantly have CPU load issues (on different machines) with different versions of Xorg, KDE and different video chipsets on many different releases of Linux (Ubuntu.Slackware etc). It is often a case of swapping VGA cards until a compatible one is found where the CPU is reasonable. So your distribution is not the only one with this problem at all. I even had to resort to proprietory nvidia drivers on one Linux installation. At this stage, I could not find any AGP cards (I have many) that would lower the load of the new XBMC release. I also encountered the “page flip” problem (using the Intel VGA chipset) where rsyslogd started violently filling the logs and eating lots of CPU. However I found a fix (~./drirc file) for that one. This is just an informational post as I am very happy with the old version. Thank you.
What can I say. XBMC is one of those applications that change daily life for the better. Wanted to do a shoutout to the devs, amazing work!!
In regards to Eden, I upgraded from Dharma to Eden without issues, I did loose my custom main menu entries, but had them back in in no time. Eden seems to run much faster, seems less bloaty to me! Now running with the new Aeon MQ3 skin. Totally loving it.
Running Eden, and upgrading my Catalyst drivers also seems to have fixed flickering problem I had with Hardware Accelaration (DXVA2) in Dharma.
Thanks Devs!!
Thanks XBMC team, I love it :) Great work.
@Luan
same here, i hope they add music support as soon as possible
Great work, guys! :) Since before it was XBMC and we were running it on our xbox, my wife and I have been staggered that this best-in-class software is free of charge and community driven. Our ongoing and sincere thanks!
Hey Guys,
When will you Release an Update for ATV2 5.0(5.1)
Hey Guys,
When will you Release an Update for ATV2 5.0(5.1)
Lovely! Running the pvr branch, very nice! :D Keep up the great work!
Matt, seems more like a missing graphics driver. I’m running XBMC on Win7 on a single-core AMD Sempron 2,5 GHz with onboard AIT graphics, so your hardware should be fine. Try either to install XBMCbuntu and install the linux drivers for your graphics card or give it a shoot on Windows if you’re playing games on this PC anyway.
My remote doesn’t work (MCE Original – worked with Dharma perfect) and there is no sound :(
HELP! – Can’t browse to SMB folder locations to add sources on x64 windows machines where the folders are shared correctly and viewable through any other method. I am running other versions and all have worked fine. Any help here would be appreciated as I’m sure other will have this issue also.
*EDIT – By adding the server by IP manually, I was able to get the folders to show up, but it would not pick up any of the contents, so, empty library. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
