XBMC 11.0: Eden Beta 2 available now

January 22nd, 2012 natethomas

xbmcbetaIt’s been a productive few weeks in the race to release Eden. Since Beta 1, unencrypted bluray, dvd player, startup problems in OSX, airplay, subtitle issues, unofficial addon repository installations, and the frustrating TMDB scraper problems that have made it difficult for everyone to scrape new movies have all seen fixes. In addition, a great deal of progress has been made in the new XBMCBuntu build, which should be ready for the next preview release. Finally, all Beta 1 users are encouraged to update immediately to fix a scraper error that causes XBMC to crash.

The same warnings from beta1 still apply. Eden is quite stable already, but don’t forget that it is in beta. Builds for all platforms except XBMCBuntu are uploaded and ready to go. Download the latest in mediacenter goodness right here.

Translators and addon developers, please be sure to send your final pull requests for translations for XBMC and Addons for Eden.

Is there a reason why there is no Eden beta 2 tarball available on the download page? Both Windows and OS X binaries were uploaded on January 21st, but the Eden beta 2 source code tarball is nowhere in sight.

Of course I can pull from GIT (and I did), but I think it would be nice for people who know their way less around than me ;).

Well, obvious brainfart. Firefox doesn’t seem to be that big on refreshing the page (I can swear I got RSI from F5′ing on the download page yesterday!).

I’m really liking Eden. The only issue I have is with the Advanced Launcher plugin. I’m not using it for any games or anything. I’m just using it to open an application, but it’s giving me prompts like I’m trying to add an emulator. It also isn’t returning the focus to XBMC when I close out the application. This worked fine in the regular version of XBMC. XBMC is still by far the best home media software out there. Great work guys!

Hi XBMC Team, super software, if not the best for your home entertainment. One question: Will bitstreaming of dts hd master and dolby digital true hd be available via hdmi in Eden?

I really like airplay, but i´m getting really jumpy audio when playing audio podcasts and sometimes the audio cuts completely.

Could this be a buffer issue?

  19. January 24th, 2012 at 06:00 | #19

NitoTV still say version “11.0-0-b1″ in its software install menu on ATV2 but you get b2

Great stuff team! love you guys. Now if only the XBMC upnp worked for networked samsung tvs that would be great :-P (I use serviio for that but would rather use xbmc!)

  23. January 24th, 2012 at 12:02 | #23

@Darius: In XBMC 12 – Eden is at feature freeze and in beta already – there won’t be any new features now to come.
@CFG9000: Posting in threads and then not read them afterwards? However:
Beta2 will include the fixes. We will resume the official nightly builds after Eden.
So, yes – the memory leak is being looked into.
@aneurysm: Yes, you’ll keep your library.
@Tester: Cannot confirm this, works smooth over here.
    @jayhawk785: No.
    @John: What? Retina?
@Bill West: Has exactly nothing to do with XBMC. Thanks for nothing.
@yglegacy @Rsb: Go to the forums for help.
@Mics: Not in this version it won’t (at least that’s what I think).

Its a custom build of Ubuntu with XBMC for the Apple TV1 with the CrystalHD card.

New XBMC user ;) Loving it so far, but…..

I am running Eden Beta2 under Win7-64bit on the Zotac Zbox Nano-AD10 (4gb RAM, SSD storage) with DXVA enabled. 1080p MKV BluRay content is still a bit choppy.

Is this because this is still beta software? Is it reasonable to expect improvement as this release approaches final? I purchased the Zotac box because all the reviews stated that 1080p content played back very smoothly on it, but I’m not finding this to be the case at this time.

Is there a performance difference in 1080p playback between Win7 and a Linux platform?

I love XBMC! I have been using 10.1 on my Dell Pentium HTPC running Ubuntu 10.04 for quite a while and it’s worked great! It’s come a long way since the original release which I had installed on my modded Xbox, back in 2003 or something like that.

Anyways… I updated to Eden (beta 2) to give it a try, although the only problem I had with Dharma is that I constantly got plugin errors on the YouTube add-on. Most of those have been fixed, now that I have been able to upgrade it using Eden.

But… One huge problem is that whenever I play anything music, it crashes on me. I had it set to rescan my audio collection anytime it started up, which made Eden crash within 60-120 seconds. Now, I have turned that off, but whenever I try to play music, it crashes on me. I am using XBMC remote for Android to control it. Video playback is great, which is about 80% of my XBMC use, but I would really like to get audio playback working again.

Anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions?

    Amazing work, guys! =)
Is there any reason to use cximage-6.0 and not 7.01?
    6.00 won’t compile against libpng-1.5.* without patching.

It’s just stunning to look at. Been a “user” only starting at the end of Dharma and used to run that on a netbook. Shitty little thing. Since the release of Eden I run it on an ATV2. I don’t know if it’s just me but from beta one to beta two it feels like there’s been a massive improvement on the performance. Once again, not sure if it’s just my mind playing tricks on me, but gotta say I’m loving it.

It’s just gorgeous. Thank you so very much for the hours and hours of time you put into this.

Hi, I love this product! and there are quite many new features implemented since Dharma. But I’am still struggling with using Airplay from my Iphone 4 when using spotify….Is this supposed to work, or does anybody else have this problem? Youtube, Movies, Pictures works great! The only thing with the videos, is that it should be possible to rotate them…that would be veeery nice!:)

Hi, any one else have any remote control issues when upgrading to Eden?
I managed to get an Ortek VRC 1100 fully operational with Darhma, Info and Context menus working smoothly however when I upgraded to Eden the media controls ceased to work, Play, Pause, Stop, Skip, FF, RW etc!
I unistalled Eden as this was amajor hassleso I put Darhma back on and it now works as normal!
I have numerous remotes as I tried a a lot out when I got into XBMC and find the Ortek the most responsive as compared to Media Remotes and Logitechs.

I will give Beta 2 a shot, but when I booted up the first beta, it froze instantly. Several times in a row, before reverting to 10.

Maybe my system doesn’t meet the requirements?

To run 1080P video smoothly, you will need a video card with at least 1GB of video ram. My 512MB card displays passable 1080p video but it is still not smooth.
