XBMC 11.0: Eden Beta 2 available now

January 22nd, 2012 natethomas

xbmcbetaIt’s been a productive few weeks in the race to release Eden. Since Beta 1, unencrypted bluray, dvd player, startup problems in OSX, airplay, subtitle issues, unofficial addon repository installations, and the frustrating TMDB scraper problems that have made it difficult for everyone to scrape new movies have all seen fixes. In addition, a great deal of progress has been made in the new XBMCBuntu build, which should be ready for the next preview release. Finally, all Beta 1 users are encouraged to update immediately to fix a scraper error that causes XBMC to crash.

The same warnings from beta1 still apply. Eden is quite stable already, but don’t forget that it is in beta. Builds for all platforms except XBMCBuntu are uploaded and ready to go. Download the latest in mediacenter goodness right here.

Translators and addon developers, please be sure to send your final pull requests for translations for XBMC and Addons for Eden.

    Trying to scan AIFF tracks from my iTunes library folder to XBMC library. The scan does not find any tracks. If I convert AIFF tracks to ALAC then the scan is successful. I have checked the tagging of the AIFF tracks with Kid3 and with iTunes. They are okay. Does XBMC library support AIFF, playback does?

    @BigJRM

    Hmmmm….Take a look at this YouTube video review of the Zotac Box ;)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pNCCk21Cv4

    Seemed like it would be able to do the job for me, but it’s just stuttering quite a bit. I was hoping it was the “Beta” nature of Eden that was the culprit

    Deke :
    Are release notes for beta2? I can only find the notes for beta1. I was hoping to see what changed and if it fixes my Subtitle- & DVD-playbackissues.

    Same here, wish I could read a full changelog, like beta1.

    I find a bit strange that XBMC will release without working with external ffmpeg. 0.9.1 requires a one line patch that is located here: . Its even worse with ffmpeg 0.10 were you get macros blocs all the time.

    external ffmpeg 0.9.1 works way better for me than internal ffmpeg…

    did i hear correctly? Will eden support slingbox natively?

    @Dave: Make sure that XBMC is set to run true full screen and NOT in a full screen window. 1080p does not play smoothly on the IONs if you are using a fullscreen window.

    When I exit a Season list back to where my TV list should be I first get a screen with just the fanart and have to push back again.
    Seems pointless might be a bug..

    Hi everyone,
    first a BIG thank you for your awesome work. I had a (I hope) little request: I’m using ts4np to remux TV recordings from a proprietary ts4-Format to ts. VLC 2.0 manages to get the time/seeking/jumping right. (In opposite to earlier versions of VLC btw.)
    Sadly XBMC only allows fast playback with a limited speed ad no jumping at all. When I try to increase the playback speed further or to jump the playback gets cancelled. I don’t understand that much of demuxers and the law situation with the licenses but maybe it’s easy to port this part of the VLC-Demuxer.
    I’m using the Beta 2 of XBMC 11 on Windows 8 Dev Preview.

    Thanks for the awesome product guys. I do have a small problem though… When running Dharma on my ATV 1st gen, all is well. But whenever I would do one of the nightly updates and now with Eden beta2, most of my movies will playback with no audio whatsoever. I have not looked as far ino it to tell you which type of audio codec they were ripped using, but I can if needed.

    Do you think this may be due to installing over dharma, instead of a fresh install (deleting xbmc and then installing Eden)?

    @JohnP
    I checked and unfortunately it is running in full screen. Sigh :(

    @Dave
    JohnP is stating NOT to run “Full Screen” but change it to “True Screen”….I don’t have beta 2 installed but this helped me in previous versions.

    Make sure hardware acceleration is turned on in video playback. DXVA2 if i remeber correct.

    @Dave

    I’m running a Foxconn nettop with the same specs (AMD E-350, 4GB ddr3 RAM, etc) as your Zotac and mine is rendering 1080p mkv files smoothly with DXVA2. My content is read from USB 3.0 hard drives, no issues there. Here’s what I recommend you try:

    Check out System Info in XBMC and see what your CPU % usage is. Mine is in the low 20’s just navigating the menu, and never breaks 30% even when playing 1080p content (usually around 10Mbps video bit rate), assuring me that the GPU part of the E-350 has taken over. If your CPU usage % is high, then we can assume DXVA isn’t rendering like it should be.

    You could download Media Player Classic Home Cinema and enable DXVA rendering in there, to cross-check if you get smooth playback in that program. If it’s not smooth there, then there’s some kind of video issue with your system that no amount of XMBC tweaking will fix until the root problem is found and solved.

    My most basic suggestion is to simply make sure your graphics driver is up to date.

    Is there a reason why all my media keeps buffering from my external HDD…it never did this with Dharma…it is really very annoying and defeats the purpose of have the files local. Is this a bug or something because it is the same configurations I have for Dharma…Anyone else experiencing this problem

    Since upgrading to eden beta 2 – playback shows a black bar at the top of the screen with a blinking narrow vertical line at the very top left, same height as the bar. the window is entirely shifted down, and the bottom bar is lost below the tv screen. While I can adjust the playback so that I see all of it, I can’t’ find any setting that fixes the bar at the top.

    @BK, @Westy, @JohnP and especially @Jacob ;)

    Major ;)

    I don’t know what happened, but it turns out DXVA2 *WAS* disabled. I know I turned that sucker on, but somehow it got disabled (perhaps post upgrade to Beta2, but who knows?). That brought my CPU usage down from 85% to 30%. Playback is much smoother now ;)

    Thanks all for putting up with my nooby complaining LOL.

    Thank you all for your work and passion for XBMC.
    What about linux and frustrating problems of audio output, spdif passthrough, suddenly broken audio after playing certain stereo files and many others digital audio related ?
    It is a fix for that in future release.
    Anyway Thnx again for great job, team XBMC

    XBMC is the best for Linux and the reason that I am happy with my Linux desktop!

    Do you use Digital output or the Analogic one?
    I’m not so happy with my audio digital output and linux.

    Quickstep :
    I love XBMC! I have been using 10.1 on my Dell Pentium HTPC running Ubuntu 10.04 for quite a while and it’s worked great! It’s come a long way since the original release which I had installed on my modded Xbox, back in 2003 or something like that.
    Anyways… I updated to Eden (beta 2) to give it a try, although the only problem I had with Dharma is that I constantly got plugin errors on the YouTube add-on. Most of those have been fixed, now that I have been able to upgrade it using Eden.
    But… One huge problem is that whenever I play anything music, it crashes on me. I had it set to rescan my audio collection anytime it started up, which made Eden crash within 60-120 seconds. Now, I have turned that off, but whenever I try to play music, it crashes on me. I am using XBMC remote for Android to control it. Video playback is great, which is about 80% of my XBMC use, but I would really like to get audio playback working again.
    Anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions?

    Welcome to our club !!!

    Thank you for a great release, lower CPU usage and playback is absolutely smooth! first time I’ve played a Blu-Ray on Mac with 0 dropped frames!

    though one problem found: Drops tons of frames with 1080i movies.
    Playing an unencrypted copy of the Blu-Ray, Living Landscapes: Costa Rica, XBMC dropped 900 frames in the first minute. both with and without de-interlace on.

    Awesome stuff guys :)

    Was loving Eden beta 2 on my new atv2, was working brilliantly for last 2 weeks but after updating my library all library functions (ie. “Movies” & “TV shows”) have disappeared! :(
    When browsing the files the pictures are still there but option on main menu for tv, etc are gone. Also, updating of library with new items no longer works

    Thank you for all your hard work. Ran into a few lockups on the nightly… But duh of coarse that will happen.
    Been rocking XBMC since I had an original XBOX and love it.
    So with that being said, thank you for all your hard work. All of it allows me to enjoy my video and music collection on my TV.
    Thank you Thank you thank you.

    @Zyn

    I agree, i have a few androids laying around with mini HDMI, These would make far superior Home theater boxes than any apple junk. I wouldn’t mind installing it directly on android os or a live boot.
