apple's new 'mac mini' sure will make a sweet little low-end setup box.. all thats missing is the perfect media center application.

xbmc is the best application around by far for playing videos/music on a tv..

neither of the two big oss media center projects around (freevo & mythtv) can match xbmc for features or ease of use, and i'm not interested in tv..

would anyone be interested in an os x port of xbmc?

not sure how difficult it would be to port the gui, but mplayer is already solid on os x.

any thoughts?

read these two threads before you get your hopes up:

xbmc gui relies to much on directx to make porting feasable, if someone wanted it they have to almost code it from scratch and only try to clone the xbmc look and feel

apple is already planning a media center style box. of course, it will be like all their other consumer electronic products*...
out years later then the first versions other companies make
nothing better just 1.5x to 2x more expensive
marketed (and well i might add) to dorks who know nothing of the technology so they are sold since they think it is "revolutionary!"
oh yeah... and proprietary! ie ipod only works with itunes.

apple's ce devision prays on the uninformed.

*note: only including ce products, not computers.

i do not think the best way is to port xbmc, but i think there is a demand for an xbmc type application for the mac mini.

i've been working on getting an xbmc xbox with kuro box server up and running. i ran across this guy who has some real interesting stuff going on: http://www.larwe.com/technical/current.html

the site describes his current project turning the mac mini into a media server.
