Software used to encode dvd to xvid?

i want to backup my dvd movie collection and i'm wondering what programs you all use to convert dvd to xvid or divx... got any tips or pointers to excellent tutorials on the subject? i want dvd quality conversions. prolly about 1.5 to 2.0 gb final file size. thanks!

www.doom9.org check guides section.

i recommend gordian knot (semi advanced) or autogk (very simple) and xvid codec

thanks pike... i already have gordian knot installed. i just haven't had enough time to play with it enough i guess.... but i'm happy to hear that it's recommended by a respected tech. i'll do some more work with it. thanks again.

ps i love xbmc!
