ok guys,
first of all have a heartly pat on the back from me for the whole project... well bloody done! just thought i'd pop this question to you in the hopes anyone can help! i've got my xbox default dash as th latest xbmc. however you know when you first turn on your machine and it comes up with the xbox logo and then a second later "microsoft" appears underneath? i'm pretty sure changing this in anyway would be a breach of copyright so i won't even go there but i would like to replace the whole thing with one of my own bootscreens i've made myself. is this possible? i've looked on the net and it always talks about illegally getting the xdk and hacking the bios with something called r4 codes. as well as terrifying the life out of me i really don't want to go through all that just to have my own pretty boot screen i've designed. is there no way i could create one in photoshop save it under some filename and then replace it over whatever the origional ms is? i mean where is this picture kept and what accesses it? any help appreciated, cheers  |

no can do... that info is stored in the bios. so unless you are interesting in risking tinkering with the bios i wouldn't bother.

bez: there are a number of bios tools out there that can be used to modify or remove the start-up logo, but i have never seen one that allows you to replace it with one of your own. bios hacking is a bit of a black art but i do know that rc4 codes are no longer required (or so i've read).
it may be possible one day, but for now it's unfortunately not as simple as copying a file somewhere. |

it's worth noting that the tools that remove the xbox startup logo don't actually make your box boot up quicker. i tested mine against a friends who had removesd his logo, and they both boot up in identical time side by side. so you get a black screen for what feels like an age as opposed to quicker bootup time
![]() just thought you might be interested. you can, however, change the pallette colours used to make the xbox logo (but only after the initial animation). pointless really. |

moving to the "xbox general" forum as this has nothing directly to do with xbmc. btw, the tool(s) you need for logo change are:
http://home.alltel.net/nghtshd/xbtool.html or http://home.alltel.net/nghtshd/evtool.html or http://www.xbox-scene.com/tools....omtxxku

actually it can now be done using ftt/kernel basher, i created an xbmc logo directx file from tamper's logopack- ftt & kernal basher can be found at www.kernelbase.com
xbmc.x file, tut, screenshot and video of bios booting up can all be found here- also added evox m8 logo replacement too- which is better in one way as you can use full colour for the logo but is only in the top left corner all through the boot sequence. currently kernelbasher does not support evox m8 (so you can't combine both mods at the moment) but they are working on it
