I am not trying to rip HD or BR dvds. Just some plain old DVDs and get some good quality videos out of them. I am currently trying to use Slysofts CloneDVD mobile. This allows me to rip DVDs to avi mpg and divx files but I am not able to play any of these files on my xbox. I have tried so many formats and many different resolutions... nothing is working for me. The only file I can actually watch that looks like a decent quality is a trailor for Jumper. Its an AVI with 592x256 mpeg layer 3 and FFDS video compression.
I am really looking for one simple software to use to rip my DVDs to the xbox. Can someone tell me what the easiest way is to rip DVDs in a compressed format to view in XBMC. I am using component cables and I THINK it is running in 720p. |

What skin are you using? You might just be out of RAM is all.
www.doom9.org for all your ripping/encoding needs.

it's really an open ended question... You don't state what your concerns are. Storage space? Quality? Container preference?
If you're not worried about space rip the entire DVD to an ISO. If you're worried about space, rip the DVD to x264 (MeGUI) |

And you skip by my skin question which could render all of this stuff moot...

As in it won't start, or it's very choppy when playing? More specific please. And what codec are you going for? x264 or Xvid? |

Most of the avi are just crappy quality but alot of the movies will not play at all. I click on the movie and it goes to a black screen like its about to play then it goes back to the movie list.
I have tried a few ISOs and I am able to get a few to play but others will not. For example I have I Now Pronounce you Chuch and Larry... and 300. Chuch and larry will play fine...300 just goes black and kicks me back out. Is this a setting problem? I am just trying to find the best WORKING way to rip my DVD collection. |

The CloneDVD Mobile software has a "Microsoft H264/ACC" rip setting. It is suppose to be for the 360 and Windows Media Center. Should that work in XBMC?

The easiest for me is just use dvdshrink. Its free, and the quality is very good on my 65" DLP and 102" projector. The only issue is there are a few movies that shrink wont rip. (Mostly Disney)
BTW, I rip to ISO using dvdshrink. XBMC on my xbox plays them perfectly. |
