hi,

i didn't see the absense of quicktime support in the list of changes between xbmp and xbmc.
while xbmp at least at (partial) support for quicktime movs (no sound), trying to load mov files in xbmc seems to crash my xbox.

is this support going to be implemented or dropped al together? it would be really great, so no one ever has to start up that ugly quicktime player from apple again.

cheers

thanks for all the help and this amazing program.

quicktime is not one format, there are many formats, codecs and versions, xbmc don't support most so you need to know codecs your media using.

xbmc only support these codecs: http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/info_project.htm

as most people are aware, e3 2004 is upon us and thus the floodgates for video game trailers have been released. *i've downloaded a whole bunch and it seems most sites are choosing quicktime as their preferred video format. *about 95% of all the trailers i have are quicktime .mov files.

i thought it would be cool to burn these to cd and play them on the xbox to show all the latest games off to friends and family. *i've not had problems with xbmc before, playing a host of formats in the past (even real media!)

i popped in the cd and that's when the problem started. *only about two of movies on the disc worked (republic commando and doom 3) out of about 10 movies. *both of those working movies were .mov files just like the rest, so it's just even more confusing. *the ones that did not work would either not load at all or play the audio fine with a garbled black screen.

i haven't tried sending the videos to the xbox's hdd, but my theory is that maybe it's because it is reading from cd? *then again, i really have no clue and could surely use some help.

thanks in advance to anybody who has any advice or solutions.

just a quick update, i copied over one of the non-working movies (final fantasy: advent children trailer) and it does the same thing: playing audio fine but the video is black with garbled specks around.

anybody know anything about this?

haha i actually signed up to the forums because im in the same exact situation. i tried to download the last xbmc build but now the mov videos crash my xbox (note: all of my videos are on the hdd so that crosses out the possibility of the dvd being the problem)

put simply they aren't going to work anytime soon. some quicktime trailers might work if they have mp3 audio, also make sure you have the relevant win32 codecs in your mplayer codec dir (this might get you video on some, not sure).

Talking

understand that .mov is just a container format, just like a avi file it can contain any number of different audio and video codecs, (yes, there is not only one quicktime codec but dussins of audio/video qt codec versions and variants). if you mangge to play one mov in xbmc but not a other it's because the .mov that played contains both an audio and video codecs that xbmc supports (see list of supported codecs here on our project page). when it comes to codecs that could be inside a quicktime mov/qt container xbmc only support mplayer's native codecs such as theora vp3/svq3 video, sorenson v1/v3 (svq1/svq3) video and standard mpeg-4 video with mp2, mp3 or aac audio. xbmc does not play newer quicktime codecs such as qt 6 which mplayer only supports via win32 dll binaries (details on that are explained here). please(!), please read up on this before asking for new codec support so you understand that it's not as simple to add to xbmc as you might think!
