Default Quick Question About NAS

I have been looking for the best way to expand the storage of my xbox for XBMC, and I think that NAS seems to be the best way for me. Anyways, I was looking here: http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=NAS and I saw the "Western Digital MyBookWorldEdI 500GB Gigabit NAS" listed under compatible drives. Just curious if the 1TB version of this drive would also work...I don't see why not, but I just want to be safe before I make my purchase.

Thanks for your help!

Hi there!

It's not a direct answer to your question, but think about:

I was looking for a NAS too. After testing three different NAS-Systems I now bough a barebone Shuttle K45. For me, it's more efficient to have a real PC. My LITTLE "Server" does many jobs for me using the XBOX/XBMC (Exp. resize all my Pictures so XBMC can show/rotate etc. them more faster).
I only want you to think of another alternative to a "only" NAS-System. The K45 can handle near any hardisc on the market und it only costs around 150 EUR. The system is very small and don't takes much energy and it works like any other NAS-System.

Maybe this information is usefull for you.

Greetings,
FuXX

i can't tell about your specific drive but i got a noname NAS enclosure hosting
2 samsung 500GB discs in Raid 1 (=1TB) without any problems.

so as long as your NAS is capable of SMB and not listed here to not work with XBMC you should be fine

I'm using a Hammer MyShare 2TB NAS on my network with fantastic results. This thing is HUGE, and fast.
They have 1TB and 1.5TB versions. My 2TB cost around $650US.
As for the WD mybook, check the reviews at Newegg.com.
The "World Edition" especially is getting horrible reviews.
See here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...dition&x=0&y=0

Cheers!

Thank you for the information...however, 600$ is a little more than I'd like to spend. Does anyone have any recommendations for any 1tb nas drives that are around 300$ or less?

yup yup, SMB/ SAMBA compatiblity is the key.

According to this article:
http://www.raoulpop.com/2007/06/25/h...ld-edition-ii/
It has SAMBA compatiblity

Thanks for the replies, I dont think I'm going to be buying the western digital because of all the terrible reviews.

Can anyone suggest a 1TB NAS drive that is around the same price range? ($300 or less)

Thanks!

eh, I'd build one. Like others have said, use a Shuttle barebones and stick it in the closet. You'll get a lot more out of it, plus it'll be much more future proofed / upgradeable in the future.

I'd really prefer to just buy a NAS that's ready to go
