is it safe to turn off the xbox while an mp3 or video is still playing?
i do it every now and then (in the car), is it good for the hdd? my spider sense tells me no, but my friend reckons its safe and i do use my car to go from a to b, so i hate having to do all this extra shit to my xbox to turn it on and off. i just want to pull the keys outta the ignition and go. i am turning it off using the power button on the front (through the lovely yellow wire in the control pad port) so it's like a 'soft off' like a pc power button right? |

even if you pull the main powercable from the xbox your hdd won't get hurt (should stil have enough power to move into the parking position).
since this is not relay related to xbmc i move it to "xbox general".

modern hdds have a sprung auto-parking system, they can park without needing power.

shoud be safe:
have it in my car. use a 12v/230v regulator, which is switched on/off by the "remote" signal of the headunit. i fool the xbox via fixing the on/off button in a pressed position. works great, starts when power gets on.. and off stops. runs for 3 month now.. no problem with hdd or configuration. |
