Tip - How to get the log file and paste it for the developers

Well, if good things come out of the Intel GMA X3100 problem it is that we now know that one should get to the log file in the /var/tmp directory using finder so we can copy the log file to the XBMC developers.

If you are Unix-command rusty, you can use finder...

1) In the Go menu, select "Go to folder"
2) type /var/tmp (this will open the hidden directory in Finder)
3) Open the log file, the copy the entire contents and paste it into www.pastebin.com

4) post the link to paste bin here so the developers can see what is happening.

Anyway this is probably obvious to most people, but if it helps anyone then I am glad to do my part.

I saw that someone had asked how to get to the profiles.xml and it occurred to me that it would be useful to have in the FAQ since I had to search for this info on my own at one point.

1) Click on XBMX in the Applications menu while holding down the "control" key

2) From the context menu, select "Show Package Contents"

3) Navigate to the folder which you need to access

"Contents->Resources->XBMC" contains the folders and files you would find in the Xbox installation of XBMC

Lava pointed out an error in my posting... it turns out that in the newer versions, sources.xml has moved... it currently (in ver 0.1.2) does not exist in my implementation since I didn't move it to the proper location. In any case, this is the method you need if you want to add skins to XBMC, currently.

Calibration Tip: TURN OFF "Enhance Contrast" in System Preferences... Universal Access. Turn it down to Normal from its default one notch up before you start calibrating. If you're doing full on calibration of your display using a colorimeter (e.g. the Gretag Macbeth i1 using the Eye One Match software). This software charges $200 extra for the key to activate projector calibration. Eye One Match is ok, I tried it mostly because it came along with the eye-one display LT calibrator. People like ColorEyes or Calman but those are also costly. A popular free alternative is HCRF from http://www.homecinema-fr.com/colorimetre/index_en.php
