I'm trying to create a best practice for encoding video towards XBMC.
I have seen some recommendations at this forum of using "this" or "that" encoding SW, but some are not free and some are no longer supported/developed. Therefor this thread is only intended for mencoder and FFmpeg. Mencoder are included within MPlayer, the very same module that are used (and modified) by XBMC I'm not a video encoder guru myself, but I know there's a lot of you out there that could help me (and many others). Please... Reply to this post with how you use mencoder and FFmpeg to encoder your dvb-t recordings to best fit the XBMC version as of today This thread has the heading "Video encoding - Best practice - mencoder - dvb-t". I consider to also create the thread "Video encoding - Best practice - mencoder - DVD" and maybe also "Video encoding - Best practice - mencoder - Cartoon". Should I? Also... Are this thread duplicated, i.e. can I get this information from somewhere else? |

If you're not aiming at HD you can find tons of guides here: http://www.doom9.net
XBMC will play almost anything you throw at it |

This thread was intended to make it almost as easy as it would bee if XBMC supported DVD and dvb-t mpeg encoding. I don't want to have anyone writing a shell based on ffmpeg and mencoder because that shell will be unsupported after a while. My intension was that this thread should discuss the very best way of encoding videos with ffmpeg and mencoder for the xbmc as of "time of reading this thread". |
