I did a factory restore and it went back to 2.3.1. I then ran the patchstick that I had created for 2.4. It seems to work ok so far. The 1st thing I did was set in the Launcher settings, ATV OS update enabled to NO. Hopefully that is the correct way to prevent auto-update. What are the differences between 2.3.1 and 2.4, do I give up any significant functionality? Also is there any reason why this is a bad idea? Thanks.

Hahaha, Apple knew I was going on a trip and would not have an AppleTV around for a few days so they waited until now to post the update. Need to find the mole and silence them.

At least they can now state that this time took a few days longer until everything will be back to normal for us XBMCees.

Sorry I had to.. We should all know by know that it'll be done when its done... Davilla is juggling quite a number of XBMC centric projects and word on the street says he even has a day job that pays the bills that allow him to exist and perhaps even a personal life to live as well! In the end I for one would not expect to see an updated patch stick appear overnight and if XBMC is you're main use on the ATV then you should follow one of the downgrade links posted above.

The good news is that when you run the patch stick on 3.0 you have SSH access again. This means Apple isn't looking to completely lock us out, if there were it would be trivial to block the patch stick method.
Looking at the new menu system it seems like a daunting fix to get the patch updated, I will play around to see if XBMC runs on 3.0 if anyone likes? I didn't think to launch it before I downgraded... |
