View Full Version : Mod chip selection?
hey all!
looking at several chips and am having a hard time deciding which one to go with. any help in a direction that you may or may not recommend would be much appreciated.
i've been looking at the latest, xchip, xecuter, smartxx. xenium, etc.
any help on which would be the most future proof & feature rich?
thanks for your input in advance,
stevef
just get a cheap aladdin (preferably xt), it's more than enough... they are flashable with executer bios...
if you want to spend more money for more features, get an x3.

it doesn't really matter (http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/info_faq.htm#06), only thing i like to suggest is get a solder-less version/adapter
gamester17: just for grins which mod chip do you use?
vaeanu: what is the difficulty level in installing an aladdin xt? didn't see a solderless version on the store i was on. does it have that option?
thanks,
stevef

got four xbox now (one not working, nor is that one chipped); i use one smartxx (used to be xecuter1), one chameleon (forerunner of xenium) and one xecuter 3,
(all mine are soldered, but only because modded them with pin-header before solderless-adapers where available, ...modded 15 friends xboxes, 10 of those solderless).
correct me if i'm wrong, but i think you can get a solderless pin header and place the aladdin on it ( same as for a x3).
soldering a modchip requires quite some experience i guess, thats why i had a "shop" doing it for me (all shops do modchips here). there are some 4 to 5 wires on my modchip + the pin header thats soldered on the mainboard. if you think you can do that, go ahead...
gamester is right, it doesnt matter much at the end... you'll have xbmc up and running, that's all. thats also why i think a cheap chip is ok.
solderless is indeed a nice alternatice but not if you plan moving your xbox a lot.
i'm compelled to think this whole solderless-adapters fall off is a myth.
my xbox has been modded for over 2 years with x2 and its popo-pin solution.... i've moded 3 other xboxed using the same ...
my friends just like me travel around a lot with their xboxen and the only person that keeps the xbox in the same place is my bro.
my adapter has not fallen out even once...
it's been all around london and been as far away as manchester.. it's been knocked around on the tube with people pushing into me...
maybe the only thing that will get it off is if i open the damn thing up and yanked it off...
ps: my xbox, up till this day (from the initial modding day) has not been properly closed. i just slipped the top on and didnt screw the long screws at the bottom... this was all due to the fear that they'd fall out one day when i didnt have access to the specialized screwdrivers... whaddya callit. my harddrive and cd-rom arent bolted down either... 2 years and still going.
now about the choice of chip to go with... my personal choice is this:
be bold and open up your box first so you can be certain what version it is. then get the cheapest chip that is compatible with your box.
i dont see much use for all these extra features on the newer gen chips. my x-2.2 works just fine ...
at the end of the day.. its the actually software you run on the box that counts. the more you fiddle with bios etc.. the more likely you are to kill the damn thing anyway.
