New person with some questions

hi. i am new to this forum, and new to xbox in general. in a week or two, i should have my xbox softmoded. i've read through the faq's, and still have a few questions. hope you dont mind me asking.


1)things that are ftp'd to the xbox hard drive for xbmc to play can be deleted later right?

2)can xbmc be skinned on a softmoded xbox, or does it have to be hard moded (chipped).

3)can xbmc play things burned to disks, such as video files saved as data onto cd-r's or dvd-r's? ive read some discussion on here over that, but it has confused me. if it helps any at this time, my xbox can play burned music cd's on cd-r's.

again, sorry if this is the wrong section.

thank you. i had read somewhere that it couldnt be skinned unless it was chipped. thx for answering.

once i get xbmc on my xbox, it will help me alot. wont have to sit infont of my comp.

oh forgot, does xbmc play files in .mkv format? matroska? the fact says it supports matrosak containers, not sure what that means. but it doesnt list matrosak in codecs supported. so i'm confused on that.

matroska is not a codec. it's a container like avi. http://www.matroska.org/
