View Full Version : Gamespot plus script
hello to all.
i made a new script that browses gamespot.com site for game videos. i called it gamespotplus (this script is different from the gamespot.py script by jsd).
at this moment gamespotplus lets you browse gamespot live, gamespot onthespot and gamespot video reviews.
in the future i hope to implement new features. let me know what you would like to see implemented.
in this version i used graphics made by digitalfodder that he posted in the gamespot.py thread but i would like to implement a new design. if anyone wants to help me with this task please do so.
as this is version 1.0 beta i ask all of you to try it and report any bugs to me.

executing the script takes to a screen where i have to select connection speed. after i select a speed, does not which one, the script ends.

edit 2: wow this script is great! :kickass:
it is nice being able to watch gs feeds at a higher bandwidth. also good to have a more complete video archive availble.
a suggestion would be to include a way to sort by date. having to scroll scroll though 63 pages of video review can be a pain. :bomb:

after choosing a connection speed 300l (cable) it just goes back to the main screen
i'm using the meedio skin if that helps plus every other script is working including the webradio, so i know my python is good.
any help is appreciated,

i had added modified the original gamespot script to include gamespot live, but yours is soooo much better. good work.

did you install it to q:\\scripts\gamespotplus ?
it needs to be in a dir, the dir it came with, to work. i had the same problem.
after further review, the sound is very tinny and a/v goes out of sync quite a bit.

just tried it without the spaces (gamespot plus) and it works perfectly *:o
guess i can't be a neat freak all the time

never. the rest of the script works fine but ive left the reviews to load for up to 20 mins and nothing.
ive tried all the speeds and get the same results.

do you get a window saying that the script is updating the games list?
yes and while its on that screen i can igr and adjust volume using the right analoge so its not crashed.

tell me one thing, why did you add the original gamespot script by jsd in gamespotplus??? all the movies that you have in that script you can find in gamespotplus. or am i wrong? ???
anyway, good skyn. soon i'll make a new version with some new features and who knows if it will have rss feeds support... maybe you'll make a new skyn for that version also :)
would it be possible to add "the archives" from on the spot ...so it would make it possible to watch older videos?

is it also possible that when a server can't be contacted (when trying to stream a game-review) it "auto" times out after for instance 20 seconds?
now i have to reset my xbox everytime when connecting to a server fails...

the script is great! cant wait for a new version, i'm not a photoshop pro actually, so i cant offer my help on making a skin.
the reviews section seems to take forever to update, and once it did update actually, but when i select a game it kept hanging on "fetching video" and i had to reboot.
another thing, the connection speed selection doesnt seem to affect "on the spot" and "gamespot live" section, videos like button mashing and stuff like that keeps buffering every 5 secs coz its on a high speed settings.
i just thought i would turn your attention to these points, aside from that [even with them] this script is a must have!

what do you think about combining the gsplus script with the gametrailers.com script?
just think it may simplify things a bit and since they have basically the same "goal".
either way... i love your script!
i think i'm having the same problem bugmenot is having.
everything else works fine, but when i select "video reviews", it just remains on "retrieving games list..." no matter how long i leave it.

i dont have a q dir. changed it in the script to the dir of my script folder in xmbc, is that right? when i go to watch video, it says fetching, but hangs. i am on cable modem
i've modified this slightly to include the following:
* improved skin that fits with project mayhem 3
* changed the layout of buttons/ticker to fit with the above
* added psp reviews as a separate button

i get the "fetching video.." for ever too. gs live works fine though. i don't know python, could someone give me a few lines of code to put in the script to show me what url it's trying to resolve? may be able to diagnose the problem then.

broke my python virginity & fixed it myself :)

i update list, it found loads of games, but my butons on my pad stop working, only the d pad and select button work, weird, can anyone help me ?
