Small divx movie, black screen with audio

hi, having recently installed xbmc i can successfully play dvd's, mp3's etc. but am having a problem with divx.

i have downloaded a small sample file from www.divx.com (its the heterogencis trailer) which has been encoded with divx v5.

when xbmc plays this file from my xbox hd the audio plays fine, but the screen is just black. i have not changed any settings either within xbmc or on any dashboard.

file is not corrupt as it plays on pc via media player (i know this doesn't matter as far as xbmc is concerned, but it proves the file is ok).

my main reason for using xbmc is for divx and 3ivx movies, so i don't have to convert them. has anyone had the same problem or can anyone offer any advice? thanks.

file is not corrupt as it plays on pc via media player (i know this doesn't matter as far as xbmc is concerned, but it proves the file is ok).no, that doesn't prove it, (it could simply mean that your pc player is more error resilient than mplayer (http://www.mplayerhq.hu), mplayer (http://www.mplayerhq.hu) is xbmc's a/v player).

suggest you; load that file into virtualdub (http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/), in there scan it for errors and then direct stream a/v and try to play the result in xbmc.
also try to play the original file in mplayer for windows (http://www.mplayerhq.hu) on a windows pc, all this should tell if it's a corrupt file or a mplayer/xbmc bug.

i have noticed recently that xbmc frequently plays just the audio to movies. (offhand i dont know the format of them). i found stopping the movie and restarting it fixed it.

give that a shot.

i think u can press the start button, to change the format on the screen .
