after i set screen resolution to "normal" (4:3) in ms dashboard, resolutions 16:9 are not available for me anymore in xbmc.

why is that, and is there a cure?

those settings in the ms dash set the maximum resolution your tv can handle and the xbox uses that. so does xbmc.

why would you set the i/f to 4:3 and then try and use higher settings?

that is not entirely true. xbmc does not allow to select 16:9 resolutions, but does allow 1080i ...

i am trying to understand what i should do to work around a problem with halo 2, which splits the screen horizontally only in 4:3 ("normal") resolution.
i use xbmc as the main dashboard. when i set the resolution 4:3 in xbmc, halo 2 does not see it, and still splits the screen vertically, like in 16:9 resolution.
the only way i found is to go to ms dashboard and change resolution to "normal" there.

so i wonder if anyone knows a way to force halo 2 to use the resolution set in xbmc ...

xbmc can not change/set any video-resolutions (you must use ms dashboard), ...maybe someday xbmc will be cable too but not yet
