this would be cool, the ability to use xbmc as an "alarm clock" of sorts with a nap and alarm button.
to extend the idea some:
-multiple alarms
-set dates for alarms, ie. "all week days", mondays, tuesdays, wednesdays, etc, "all weekend days", etc.

and would it be possible to put in a wake-up timer? that would be awesome too!
not possible for cold start, for more info do a seach in the xbmp forum under the xbox general for alarm-clock or wake-up

wouldn't a wake up timer work if xbmc is already running?
say, set a "sleep" timer so you can listen to music going to sleep, then after like 2 hours it would stop the music then at your designated wake up time it could start whatever media you told it to play. it would also be neat to have an actual alarm function so that it plays one of those alarm buzzes on top of the music to make sure you wake up.
ideas...
how about an autoplay functionality? this could be used for backgroundmusic or startup sound (kinda)...
just more ideas * :)

i think an autoplay feature is already possible with the use of python (autoexec.py?).
create a script and execute it with autoexec.py.
some examples are given in the scripts directory.

an alarm clock/schedule feature would kick ass. *be able to set preset times of the day to play what you want etc. *imagine coming home from work and your music is already playing. *or waking up in the morning to the playing music. *etc. *would be nice. *i know i sound like a fanatic, but i always have music playing otherwise i go crazy. *help keep me sane. :d

it'd be great to be able to set up time-based triggers to play audio and/or video files....i'd love to wake up to xbmc playing some tunes, and then just click in to check the weather, then play the latest sportscenter or bloomberg news feed off the replay....

any plans to include alarm clock within xbmc ??
like when listening to music - and there's something i have to do later - can set a reminder...??
there's a plug-in for "media portal" (pc) - how about including something similar for xbmc !??

@relevantzero, please always search before posting, i have now had to merge your post into the existing topic thread on the subject.
this idea seems slightly odd probably, but often when i've been using xbmc i've thought that it would be handy to make use of the clock functionality of the xbox to provide an alarm clock/reminder feature while using xbmc as a dashboard. yes it sounds silly but think about it, and it'd actually be a very nice feature.
i've lost count of the times i for one have been watching something/listening to radio streams only to realise that i missed something i was supposed to remember. consider the possible implementations;
1. a basic text or audio reminder (pop up during playback or auto-stop playing?). play mp3 reminder (for example) or given customizable color/appearance?
2. further option such as "always on-screen" clock (corner of screen for example)
3. option to automatically switch to certain stream/file at specified times?
4. option to automatically turn off xbox at certain times?
i have no idea how hard this would be to do, but given that xbmc makes a wonderful dash and (afaik) no one has ever used the clock in this way, i thought it might be worth suggesting. comments/ideas, anyone?
staked.

i like your idea a lot...if you have xbmc hooked up to your tv then having a reminder system is great for tv shows, appointments, etc.....man it would great if this could sync with pc apps
exactly what i was meaning. my xbox primarily serves as a streaming device for viewing files on my tv. if i get some more feedback, perhaps it's worth making as an official "feature request"...
after all if we can have an osd i don't see why it couldn't be done.
anyone else want to say anything on the idea before i either suggest it `officially` or drop it?
edit: while i'm at it, i'd just like to apologise for all the thread merging work done here, but i do believe this particular set of possible implementations is a more achievable use of such a feature and different to those previously suggested.
if the devs like it - it's got my vote... very useful.

that should suffice, until the feature gets/if it ever gets integrated into xbmc...

2. further option such as "always on-screen" clock (corner of screen for example)
something like this?

the clock is displayed with the video osd. if you can compile xbmc, i can post the source code/skin modifications.
that's something like the idea. however the more major idea's i've mentioned are obviously a little beyond just reskinning unfortunately.
still, shows that they probably could implement it. personally hope for the reminder or `auto-switch-stream-at-certain-time` features most of all.

sleep mode is there!?
sleep mode, no. i might have misunderstood something, but i thought we were talking about alarmclock / timed shutdown.

why hasnt it been added to settings? i imagine alot of folks would love it!
**this is typically where i am told it is there already and i spend the next 3 days trying to get my foot out of my mouth.
ask mr skinner aka chokemaniac, i've been bugging him for it for a while to say the least ;)

lol i would, but as i understand he has gotten old and retired. guess after a time the project takes its toll and is just to difficult to maintain :hmm:
sarcasm guys, i'd like to keep my head and neck attached to my shoulders
choke mentioned revamping the skin to add 2.0 features... maybe you should contact him and ask for things you'd like to see added?
yeah, he has promised if before 2.0 and i'm sure he'll keep his promise.
