please give the choise of old and new file manager,
the new one is unusable, the file name are too short, and a lot of times all the file starts with the same characters.

i think it's better the old one (source / destination) with 2 different windows.

thanks.

hmmm - was trying to reply to you when it was in the process of being moved, and the topic was changed.

how can you possibly like the old one better? it was a crap system that took ages to get anything done.

the new system is much, much quicker to use. sure, the amount of space used to display the file name is not quite as much as it was before, but this could be remedied by using a font that takes up less width, or by using more of the on screen real estate. feel free to edit the skin to your liking.

any suggestions you have (and reasons why you want them) for the new filemanager will be considered, but we will not bring back the old system, which quite frankly was light years behind the new one.

cheers,
jonathan

i have to agree with jmarshall, speaking as someone who also uses the filemanager alot the new one is much better. it was a pain in the neck having to switch backwards and forwards between views all the time.

having both systems present just isn't viable for a number of reasons.

for sure it's better to have both view in the same time...
but try to use with this file names...
american chopper - liberty bike part 01.avi
american chopper - liberty bike part 02.avi
...and so on...

if i have to delete a lot of files i cannot stay hour to read the name scrolling...and i am not really sure with the action taken...

thanks.

i see your problem. however it was also a problem with the old filemanager, just perhaps not quite as pronounced.

any suggestions on how this could be improved, other than just using a "thinner" font?

one possibility is to drop the size of files which would free up some space. i hate adding options though :p

ok... let's try with this solution...
remove date and size info for all the files (it is unusefull because i can't order by size or date, like the old file manager) and add a bottom line (full width window) with a 'status bar' that contains the full file name, date and size of the selected file...

i thinks that could works better.

sounds like a good solution. i'll chat with the skinners about it and see what we can come up with.

you should only get size info, and not date. i'll make sure it forces that, cause as you say, there is no way to change the sort method anyway.

i have the also the date, that why i have not enough room for the file name...

see the cvs changelog. it now defaults to sort by filename, and shows the filesize rather than date.

hello, i'm new here.

i finally configured the smb network shares, and i was wondering if there's a way to only have one window pane versus the double-pane when viewing "my files". for instance, when i view my networked mp3's, i have to wait for them to scroll to read the title, whereas, if the pane wasn't double it would probably fit...

thanks!

would it be helpful if i posted a picture of what i'm talking about?

i'm wondering if a different skin would change the layout?

i was wondering if there's a way to only have one window pane versus the double-pane when viewing "my files".no, that is not possible

i'm wondering if a different skin would change the layout?no, it won't, (because it's 'hard-coded')

do i have any other options? or do i have to wait for each title to scroll through? for example, i have many of the top 100 billbord hits for many different years, so all i see is... "top 100 billboard....", then i have to wait for it to scroll...

out of curiosity what is the purpose of having two identical panes, versus one?

thanks!

instead of using double- vertical-panes, could you design double-horizontal-panes? this would give the entire width of the screen for file names...

just an idea.... (idea from total commander for smartphone)...

what about virtual panes... only one side showing at a time, and then you can change the pane with a press of a key?

if 2 panels and data showing is such a big deal to somethen do an optional single panel or dual panel (over and under) that will kida kill off filename scrolling and you can still display date and time as well as file size information.

i agree that horizontal windows would make viewing filenames much more efficient.
