ive read the posts i could find with the dts problems and ive tried them all.
i went to the dashboard and activated dolby surround sound®
and ive downloaded the newest xbmc 1.1.0
and the audio output thingie under settings is still grey.
ive plugged my optical cable in via an advanced av cable and in to my decoder

in xbmc 1.1, you don't need to set anything in the ms dash - xbmc does it all.
all you need to do is have your advanced av pack plugged in (needn't be connected to anything) and go into audio settings.
then set your audio output to digital, and then you'll be able to enable the ac3 capable receiver and dts capable receiver options.
cheers,
jonathan

well, according to the code we basically just check with digital output is available, and if so, we allow you to change the setting.
the check for whether digital output is available basically a check of what av pack is plugged in.
it handles scart pack, svideo pack, and hdtv pack.
if the av pack you have doesn't "respond" as one of the above, then digital output is disabled, as the only other pack types (rf and standard) only have analog audio.
if you can see the digital setting in the ms dash, then you should be able to see it in xbmc as well.
if not, then please state what brand of av pack you have.

i finaly found it :)

the producer of the product is kingkross
hope this might help you
how should that help us? only way it could help us if someone with that exact same cable steps up and says
:yes, i have that cable and i have no issues".
please understand we dont have the possibilities nor funding to purchase all different 3rd party cables to verify that they work correctly. i hadn't even heard of this brand of cable until today

as pike says, we have no way to test the compatibility or otherwise of 3rd party hardware unless someone else can say whether or not it works for them.
there is a couple of other things you can test, however.
first off, can you enable digital output in the ms dash? please try and adjust the ac3/dts settings in the ms dash.
if you can do that but can't do it in xbmc, then there is a bug that needs fixing. please also test if you can change the output modes in some other software (such as avalaunch), so that we can compare code to see the appropriate things to look to changing.
if you can't do it in the ms dash, then there isn't much we can do about it.
another option would be to check for continuity between pins to check that the digital output has been enabled. basically the av pack "registers" with the xbox just by grounding some particular pins in the 25pin av plug. if you have some sort of continuity checker, then this could be done as well.
cheers,
jonathan
i had the same problem see here: xbox-scene forum (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=292878&st=0&#entry1927550)
so you had to essentially rebuild the cable to get it to work? lol...
(and keep in mind, this is not an xbmc issue, but an xbox+cable issue)

can u guys recommend me an av pack then?
gonna get mine refunded, found out it was a typhoon, and as well as i know there products usually suck
i bought the 'typhoon advance x cable pack', that cable didn't work, never shorted the right pins in the audio/video socket. it's a crappy cable that does'nt follow specifications!
i then bought the 'joytech digital av cable' which was cheaper than the original m$ cable and came with a fibre cable and was goldplated tm ;)
but i'll soon change it for a hd cable, when i buy a projector.
