i would like to have the ability to chose between mplayer and true-type fonds (same in xbmp.)
(there seems to be alot of changes in the video-screen.)
i liked the osd alot from xbmp.

thank you!

truetype subs are much clearer than the mplayer subs: they look very good but are transparent, which is annoying in bright scenes of the movie. it is very hard to read the subs then.
maybe there is an option in mplayer to set this but i dont know about that.

forget about the osd. my main point is about the subs.

hi,

i'm not really sure wether or not you are planning to implement this, so i tought i'd ask...

what would be really great is changing the subtitles color, size, type (arial, times new roman, courier,...) all from within the gui... http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/forums/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

i do not know if this would actually be possible with the mplayer subs so maybe using the ttf fonts like in xbmp...
but this would truly be an awesome addition to this allready very fast developing and great media center. :)

1. asia mplayer font (like chinese) file size may over 27mb (in size 28).
2. when the font size over 27mb, xbox only free 1mb ram during playing movie, and it will be crash.
3. asia font must be over size 28, or it hard to identify on tv.

i totaly agree with kenghua, also we can easily get chinese ttf font from anywhere.

i too think ttf will be very important in the future (even though i won't need/use them myself) but it's not a top priority

btw, another reason where ttf fonts is important is skinning, as xpr fonts do not look good in high res hdtv skins, see here (link) (http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.pl?act=st;f=7;t=12)

hello
firsttime i must apologize for my horrible english...
i have problem with smb... its too slow than xns in xbmp
and xns working fine without any problems in xbmp... in xbmc not working and samba is unusefull because i waiting for launching one movie maybe 20-30sec... and music folder loading maybe 5-8sec and if i want back from subfolders to music folder back i waiting too...
substitles is too small in 28 size... usually i using ttf subs in size 32 in xbmp and it much better too...
please who can implement it to xbmc too???
thanks too much voda :d

people still use xbmp in asia (taiwan, china, japan, korea, thailand...) long time, because they can't watch movie with local subtitle when running xbmc.
xbmc has a lot of pleasant and strong functions, like as pass-through, but we can't enjoy it.

why don't we use mplayer raw-fonts?
1. asia mplayer font (like chinese) file size may over 27mb (in size 28).
2. when the font size over 27mb, xbox only free 1mb ram during playing movie, and it will be crash.
3. asia font must be over size 28, or it hard to identify on tv.

the latest xbmp cvs also have some bug when ttf enable:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker....=508678 (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=843914&group_id=64793&atid=508678)

what we can do? still use old xbmp and waiting?
most persons in asia think the xbmc totally useless for them, even it release so many greatest functions every day.
why? they can't watch no translated subtitle hollywood movie!
please...develops the xbmc ttf-support soon, we'll be moved to tears of gratitude!

yes i'm afraid so, know that ttf support is not planned for v1.0 point release of xbmc (at least not planned by anyone on the xbmc-team)

yeah, i really would like to see this (i made a topic about it a week ago or so). and maybe to add to that list, border size and color changing.

what about a poll, to see how many people would like to see ttf incorporated, and if alot would like to see it, making it a higher priority.

i just want to be able to display and play files with chinese filenames http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/forums/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif subtitles arent that important to me, but does sound nice :)

i strongly agreed that ttf support should be incorporated in xbmc.

xbmc is superior than xbmp in all areas except no ttf support. (previously no osd but osd support now) i view video clips with chinese subtitle sometimes and so i still use xbmp to view those video clips.

i want to remove xbmp from my xbox but it is hopeless unless xbmc has ttf support.

i hope xbmc has ttf support soon.

im using lastest xbmc build 2004-04.19
is it possible just copy chinese (gb/big5) .raw font files to xbmc\mplayer\fonts to make it works?

after copied the fonts files to the directory, it can be choosed from the xbmc -> settings -> my video -> srt subtitle, but still cannot display chinese subtitle

for who want to try, grab the fonts from here

ftp://ftp.mplayerhq.hu/mplayer/contrib/fonts/chinesefonts

sorry for bad english, thanks

xbmc 1.0 beta is released now. i would like to know if there is any schedule when ttf (true type font) will be incorporated in xbmc.

hi,

just committed into cvs a change that supports true type fonts in skins. it should now be easier to support non-latin characters in the gui.

please refer to skinning.txt for instructions of how to this feature.

just added support for true type fonts in the skin/gui but not in subtitles. this is being taken care of by another dev.

ttf fonts dont look near as good on xbox as they do on pc
dont know exactly why but i suspect its because of the black surrounding
subs on tv and movies have a thicker black shadow

cant it be made so we can set the thickness ourselves?
