i know its not xbmc related but i have just got burnout 3 and its fantastic.

all i would like would be to add my own music instead of the ea games trax, does anyone have any idea how i could do this or if you could point me in the direction of people that would know.

thanks

this is done using the microsoft dashboard. all necessary documentation should be in your xbox manual, the procedure: rip audiocd's to the xbox harddrive

thanks for the reply although, you may have misunderstood.

with ea games trax, your unable to use ripped music from your hd like most games. it has its own list of music already, i just wondered if this could be edited using ftp to change the music files.

thanks

first, your music needs to be in wma format. second, your music needs to be installed in the xbox's music database. there are some software you can use to inject tracks into the music database but i dont remember their names offhand. look around xbox-scene.com.

once you have your music in the xbox music database, xbmc can access it using the soundtrack bookmark in xboxmediacenter.xml.

i already explained how to do this before and don't feel like doing it again, will see if i can find the old thread and merge the topics.
(basicly you need a third-party homemade software on you pc that converts mp3's to wma and copies+update to the ms database)

edit: i could not find the old thread, but one of the tools is called "soundtrack editor (http://www.xboxzone.co.kr/)", you can download it from xbox-scene.com (http://www.xbox-scene.com/tools/tools.php?page=utils)

note! this has nothing to do with xbmc, once you start a game (or are other xbox application) all xbmc functions are 'gone', period!

1) yes, burnout is great.
2) i've noticed that the xbox sountrack editor does not work
with xbmc. it connects fine to avalaunch, but repeatedly fails to connect to xbmc.

xbox sountrack editor does not work with xbmc. it connects fine to avalaunch, but repeatedly fails to connect to xbmc.yes, it works with evolutionx too, (but not with xbmp/xbmc), it's because xbmc uses different ftp addressing ("e:\" vs. "e/" )

1. the wmv files are saved in e/tdata/fffe0000/music
2. yes you have to edit a db file to get files you add to show up on the ms dash/games

3. why don't you ask the author of the app why you get the error (we can't help there... you didn't say whats the name of the app) :p

you need avalaunch/evox, it doesn't work with xbmc

can i use my mp3s as soundtracks in games? i know i can take a cd and rip the tracks onto the xbox hard drive but i want to import my mp3's so i can listen to them in games that support custom soundtracks...is this possible?

pike

no, games only support wmv soundtracks afaik, there are tools to rip these on pc though if i'm not mistaken. check google/x-s

hey dev-team! awesome job on xbmc - (i'm loving it!)...
my feature request:
-ability to play music/mp3s/wma/etc while gaming

can this even be acheived? can xbmc run behind a game, much like the evox dashboard does to enable its new igr (in game reset)?

perhaps, while in game, to change the song you would have to hold a sequence of buttons and use the "back"/"start" button to cycle through the music.

if you need any funding for this project, please, let me know! i would pay to see this one - well, i would pay to keep xbmc developping in general!

the reason this is impossible is that the xbox has no operating system which would share the processor/resources between programs. writing a new one is impossible because all games assume they have unrestricted, complete, and unshared access to xbox hardware and resources.

you need to either use the ms dash to rip cd's to soundtracks or use xbox soundtrack manager (http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/~xbox/xbox-scene/tools/managers/xboxsoundtrackmanager_0002.zip) to turn your mp3's into a soundtrack

is there any way to have an xbox game read it's music soundtracks from a smb share?

deltop
2005-08-18, 18:36
no.

sorry but it's a bit of a silly question. xbmc can read from smb shares because it has an smb client.

so unless whoever programmed the games your playing took the time to also include a configurble smb client in the code then it's not going to happen is it?

@baker420, read the topic thread i merged your post into as it explains about xbox music soundtracks in games, also read this (link) (http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.pl?act=st;f=11;t=1730) which explains the smb side of it.

im just putting this topic out there because it might be a nice feature for xbmc. at the moment im working on a feature in xbmc caled xbmc tv so i wont be able to participate but i thought that it might be nice to be able to liston to music from a samba share while playing games. firstly before anyone says it, it would be handy because the pc with your music might be in another room in your house or something so you might not be able to liston to music from a media player like winamp while playing games. im talking about games which allow you to play the music stored on your xbox hard drive. im not sure were the origional xbox microsoft stored this music or in what format so bear with me. if its possible that the games play lots of formats not just tied down to one you could build some type of shortcut folder of the origional microsoft dashboard folder where this music was stored on the hardrive. the shortcut would be to the samba share which the music is located so the game would see the music files as if they were in the folder. i have no knowledge of how this may be done or if its even possible to create the share folder even if the game will play files such as .mp3 format or other formats but i just thought its an idea.

this idea faces same problems as playing games over network although your idea has yet another problem. let's start with the first problem.

a game. when a game (or any other app) runs on xbox, this alone is what is running. xbox1 operates with a single cpu thread. the moment you start a game from xbmc, xbmc ends, and the game now has sole "possesion" of xbox resources.
and a game only supports what it was programmed to do, read files from d:\
what bioses do is map d:\ to the folder where you launch the game from, fooling xbox it's the dvdrom.
granted, something similar could be done on bios level for smb access, but noone has done this, which leads me to believe it's not possible. besides, 100mbit (max 10mb/s) isnt really fast transfer.

now to the soundtracks. xbox soundtracks are always in an xbox wma format. again, you would have to remap the soundtrack folder to a smb share and keep music there in a compatible format.

smb would require you to squeeze a smbd (client) into the bios, which i guesstimate would make min bios size 1024kb

@cryptonik, please read this topic (link) (http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.pl?act=st;f=11;t=1730) which faces the same logic as pike explained. neither is possible from or via xbmc for the same reason.

i have all of my mp3s on my xbox, but i was wondering if there was any way that i could play them from within games, like you can when you copy a cd via the ms dash. the tracks copied from a cd are kept in e:/tdata/fffe0000/music/0000/ as wma files. i tried converting some mp3s to wma and placing them in the folder, but it didnt work. this seems like it might not be possible to do. thanks for any help.

Hello there!

My brother recently soft-modded my Xbox, and I now have access to the amazing world of XBMC...however...

I cannot seem to figure out how to create custom soundtracks. I have read through the site and figured out why I can't access the main Xbox dashboard (old bios methinks) but I was wondering if there is any way to access the current music stored on the HDD via XBMC.

Or - can i burn the upgraded files needed to access the default dashboard onto a CD, and then copy it over to my xbox - which would then allow me access? (I have no FTP setup)

And if this is the case - does this CD-Burning option work for everything? (e.g. skins, trainers etc.)

If you could help out a poor n00b like myself, I would be very greatful.

spiff
2006-11-22, 18:27
yes, to access the soundtracks, just add a bookmark to them (soundtrack:// is the path, but just use the gui - see the manual on how to add bookmarks).

yes you can move files between your pc and your xbox using a cd. why anybody would put themself through such a painful process (atleast if you make it your only way of moving stuff to the xbox) is beyond me however.

Guiberu
2006-11-22, 18:29
So if i make a bookmark - i can then delete all the crap that's on there, and burn more stuff (using XMBC) into that folder to listen to in-game?

Also - i don't know if this is against the rules...but is there a link to download the version of the dashboard i need to access the original Xbox Dash?

Guiberu
2006-11-22, 18:46
Oh!

Update;

I've managed to add the source and get access to the mp3s. However, when i go into "My Files" the option to delete the music is grayed out... Have i done something wrong?

spiff
2006-11-22, 19:11
it's read only access...

there are dedicated tools for adding soundtracks but they all require ftp.
and it's .wma, not .mp3

Never mind, i've just figured out you can't delete / change any files in the ms database via the files manager.

Anyone have a link to a retail version of the dash that i can boot up? (refer to original post - i can't just "boot to ms dash" as my xbox bios is ooolllddd)

Try "SlaYers EvoX Auto Installer", I used it to restore the original MS Dash before I upgraded the HDD in my Xbox. Works great...just do some googling and see what yah come up with.
