Transparency! - A Fanart Skin v2.01
Update to v2.01: (http://xbmc.org/skins/transparency/5/)
Transparency! v2.01 is a bugfix update only.
- delete the '720p' and 'media' folders from the Transparency! skin folder.
- extract the zip file to the Transparency! skin folder.
- restart xbmc.
I know, it's been 5 weeks since the last release...time for an update i guess.
A lot of code changes have taken place since v1.03, mainly aiming at streamlining the skin as much as possible.
If i didn't make any mistakes, you probably won't notice it...but it may all run a bit smoother (less memory/cpu usage).
Another thing that's changed is the way the recently added script works, it used to run every time you enter the homepage.
Since this was causing annoying temporary lockups for several users, it now only runs once at startup. For the rest,
the script will only run after you have updated your library.

- new weather layout for weather.com plus plugin (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=52034)
- clicking 'new' in recently added on the home screen takes you to the recently added movies/episodes/albums section
- cdArt on the home screen
- added 'total count' to recently added items on home screen
- the recentlyadded script now only runs at startup and after library update
- fanart view in every section
- options for short and long list in fanart view
- media-info view for ‘now playing’ videos
- added 'play disc' button to player controls
- added settings button to shutdown menu
- added emulators, comics and music videos buttons to home menu
- pic thumb view now shows pictures fullscreen
- options to hide the watched flag in movies, tv shows and music videos
- trailer preview window in slideview
- custom skin transparency level
- new fontset ‘4×3 bold’ (thanx tikkiew)
- several translations (thanx to all translators!)
...and about 50 other changes (check changelog.txt included in the skin)

note: Transparency! does not work with the stable 9.04.1 release of xbmc, you'll need a svn build (r22038 or up) of xbmc!
notes to xbox users:
- by default v2.00 supports native media flagging only. if you are still using the old skin based flagging method,
copy the 2 files in the 'deprecated' folder to the '720p' folder.
- accoring to the feedback i'm geting, this skin runs pretty smooth on the xbox, but if you're concerned about
memory usage, there's also a xbox friendly version (all background imaged are scaled down) available here (http://xbmc.org/skins/transparency/5/).

What is Transparency!? Short answer: a fanart skin. The main goal of Transparency! is showing your fanart, fullscreen, in all of the views, all of the time.
Besides this, it also tries to support every neat new feature xbmc has to offer. To save everyone a lot of time and trouble hacking the xml code themselves,
all of these new features are already included in the skin, pre-configured and enabled by default (wherever possible).

New weather page, using the weather.com plus plugin:
- download the plugin with the SVN Repo installer
- Settings > Weather > Weather Plugin (select weather.com plus)
- Settings > Weather > Plugin Settings
choose a map for "MAP #1 category", pick "local" or one of the "Weather details" entries. this will be used as the radar image on the weather page.
note: currently only "MAP #1" is used in the skin. other maps will be added in the future.
note: on some platforms (linux, there may be others) enabling both 'recently added' and 'weather.com' can cause xbmc to crash!
this is not a skin issue, it needs to be fixed by xbmc. keep an eye on these trac tickets for fixes:

Home Theater Experience script integration:
- download the script with the SVN Repo installer
- Settings > Skin Settings > Scripts > Enable Home Theater Experience script
enabling this script will add a "Theater" button to the movie info screen, you can use this button to launch the script.
note: you will need to setup the script first!

First of all, thanks for all your hard work and dedication to making this great skin. I love all the new features and the wording of "Disabled menu items" instead of the "No __ Button" which was kind of confusing.
I noticed that after viewing Games (and I suspect Emulators as well, but haven't tested it), whenever you select Programs it would take you to the last viewed game instead of program plugins or other programs you have.
To get around this, I enabled a source in Programs and called it Programs and included program plugins and LinksBoks so that whenever I select Programs it takes me to where I expect to go instead of the last viewed game.
In version 1.03 I was able to edit Home.xml but soon realized hat to make this change it was in Includes_Home.xml. I changed two instances of "<onclick>ActivateWindow(Programs)</onclick>" to "<onclick>ActivateWindow(Programs,Programs)</onclick>" and it now works the way I'd expect it to work.
I realize that you can disable the feature to remember the last view, but that is helpful 99% of the time and it would be a pain to lose that functionality just for the Programs button to go where expected.
I'm not sure if this is something that would work for everyone since you would have to create a new source, but I found that it works for me and I thought I'd share it.

Thanks for sharing the fix, nicoli_k! Editing the includes_home.xml did the trick, as i already had my programs in it's own source.

Waer schon cool wenn ich wenigstens einfache Eintraege reinmachen koennte, ohne das Spiel starten zu koennen/muessen whatever... Einfach meine kleine persoenliche Library erstellen :)

true, since i'm not a gamer, i just used some random game names....i never thought anyone would notice :-)
i can't tell you how to launch games, but if you want it to look like in the screenshot, here's what to do: put a fanart.jpg and a folder.jpg in the folder of every game....that's it.
there's also a FAQ entry (#13) on how to link the Game menu button on the homescreen to your games folder.

lol, don't ask me, i'm the biggest game n00b on this forum.
i'd say you can run games on an xbox....
Launcher plugin is pretty cool, i use it to launch firefox from within xbmc.
whether or not you can use it to run games or launch emulators, i wouldn't be able to answer. :-)

Noticed my XBOX is doing the same thing. Im on 22485 of the nightly builds.
Other thing I noticed is that I cant play trailers. I did a refresh of my movie to see if that would enable it but in fanart view, I cant play the trailer. But if I go back into movie information and select trailer, it plays fine...not sure if you were aware of this or not.

You must copy this plugin to the xbmc\plugins\programs\ folder. Then you can add it as a source.

You are right :o I was using r21905.I Am using now r22139

yep, i know. it's one of those xbmc things.
you can't change it in the skin.

well they are separated. it's working just fine for me...well 95% fine at least.
i just noticed in Media Info View at TV Show level things are reversed.
i'll fix that.

It's wierd as XBMC noticed the trailer as an icon is displayed for it. I was using another nightly build for XBMC, which I still have and can see if it works with Transperancy! 2.0. But in version 1.3 (with this older nightly build) the trailer would play full-screen once I clicked the trailer icon in fanart view or any other view that displayed it. Now, I can only play trailers from Movie Information option.
I will try the previous build and reply back what I find as it might be build related but I was able to play trailers on XBOX platform before.

first off let me say that you have out done yourself with this update ... lots of useful features that i know i will definitely add to my routine when using XBMC.
i haven't really found any bugs that pertain to your skin thus far.
i did find one minor irritation having to do with the open subs script but that is completely unrelated to your skin.
and ill post that in their forum thread.
i do have a request for Ver 3.0 in the slide view is it possible to squeeze in a scroll bar at the bottom below the movie thumbs for fast scrolling thru large libraries?

sure, i've been thinking about it for a bit and i think i want to make it hidden by default, so it doesn't clutter up the screen. kinda like the way the side menu operates, it's hidden by default but slides in when you navigate to it.

You could try using the skin-based madia flagging (morer info in startpost). That might reduce memory usage, but I'm sure.

no clue, memory ussage should improve with v2.00

Im using the full version of Transperancy! v2.0 on my XBOX and have yet to expereience any freezing and I didnt use the other 2 files for XBOX that are in the full version.

Make sure your using a more recent nightly build as apparently this should fix your idea, but Im also having the same thing :oo: Ronie recommended to look at the strings.xml file for a couple of strings to make sure their present. So, look at that and check/verify if your using a recent nightly build as mentioned in this thread on a previous post by Ronie.

I just wanted to clarify that skin based flagging is when you enable the scan for metadata within the skin, right? And native media flagging is if XBMC, itself supports it? Is that the difference between the two???
On v2.0 I can get some media flagging, Im using XBMC Patched version (supports native flagging for Xbox) and am wondering how certain flags or criteria such as MPAA and Studio flags are recognized by either the skin or xbmc and displayed?
Currently, I get like aspect, audio, format, dvd, bluray, hdtv flags but noticed some flags such as closed caption (subtitles), mpaa, studio flags that Ive seen by others using Transperancy! arent being displayed. Im assuming its because xbox doesnt really fully support native media flagging but the xbmc patched version on the nighly builds mentions it does...
If anyone can shed some light into this, it would be greatly appreciated :nod:

I have a couple of doubts.

that is called "media flagging". It's not natively available on xbox unless you use one of the experimental builds. There are work arounds, you'll have to research that...

Well, not sure if this is a bug or me just not knowing how to do it. I set my sons comics up on here, they show up and I can get into the file and see the cover pages, but I can't "turn" the pages. He used ComicRack before and the stuff is there, so maybe I just don't know what buttons would be used to do it.

If you go to settings/skin settings/home window and set recently added movies, episodes and albums to on, all the data will be displayed. on mine the artist data is wrong, i have about 420 artist but displays 44550 may be a bug.....

'skin based' media flagging is the old way of displaying those icons.
most skins don't support it anymore, but Transparency! still does, read the first post on how to use it.
'skin based' media flagging only works if you use one of the media managers that can put the required info in the <studio> field in the .nfo files of your movies.....i'm not sure if/which media managers still supports this.

if you store all your comics in separate folders, all you have to do is add a folder.jpg (and fanart.jpg if you want that as well) to every folder.

In the 1.03 version it was possible to change a couple of lines in the home.xml so that when you click on movies it will take you to the screen where you choose title, genre, year etc. This (http://xbmc.org/forum/showpost.php?p=361870&postcount=384)is the post I found which helped me out previously, however I can't find these lines in home.xml anymore - is there another fix someone could sort me out with? I Just like to search by genre every now and then when the kids are round so we can be searching for cartoons and not the likes of "lesbian vampire killers"!

I have to come back on things i've said earlier:
I had to disable the recently added module, due to an python error which i got when booting xbmc (caused by the weather.com plugin). I also needed the extra memory to have a smooth movie playback (without hanging xbmc).

for me (linux) xbmc crashes at startup if i both enable recently added and weather.com. and if i try it on windows, i get random freezes....every now and then.

I grabed the xbox version and noticed that when I transfered it over, a bunch of the forgein studio images did not transfer due to special characters in the file names. (Not that I cared much, as I didn't recognize any of them and probably won't miss them) Just letting you know.

yep, it's a limitation of the xbox filesystem. it doesn't accept certain characters. just ignore the errors, you'll miss a few studio logo's but that's all.

I used the following steps:
1.) Grabbed the latest XBMC Nightly build (Standard build, NOT the patched version. I never tested the patched builds, as i think it will never be stable on the xbox)
2.) Disabled the "recently added ..." options via Skin Settings\Home Window.
3.) Disabled the "animated home and weather icons" via Skin Settings\Icons.

You have to enable "Video's" on your homescreen and start browsing from there. Then you will see the movie genres.

if your movies are already scanned into the library i believe that by default movies jump right from the home page into the movies list so what you do is once your in the movies list hit backspace a few times and it will back you out of movies list to the parent directory where you can then choose from the genre.
Have those strings been translated to French yet?!?

Running on xbox r22528. Didn't see the fanart-short/fanart-long problem a few have mentioned. I have to say, this thing runs like a champ for me, I'm hooked. Right now I'm scanning music and movies into the library (the info overlaps if you do this, not complaining, just noticed) with the ken burns backgrounds and animated weather icons on and still sitting at 20MB.
Can anyone confirm if the "Auto Scrolling for plot & review" is working for them? Not here for me...
And one question/request: When viewing the the Weather Plus plugin, is it possible to be able to toggle the map full screen with my "display" button on the remote? I know I used to be able to do that with Nuka's script, but don't know if that's now possible with it integrated into the skin as it is.

Thanks for the tip on where the code had been moved to - changed a couple of lines and it works exactly how I wanted it, once you click on movies it takes you to the page where you choose Title, Genre, Year etc. Very happy days indeed. Now, I'd better get back to installing that 1tb SATA HDD in the xbox so I can properly test Transparency with lots of media...

Seems to be working nicely. Loving the cdart on the home screen.
One thing though, I'm not the biggest fan of the new video OSD. Takes up rather too much space and I really liked the old one. Any way of having both available to give the user the option of which one they want?
Also while I'm here - any chance of season-specific fanart for TV shows at all? I've got specific fanart for season 4 of Weeds somehow, been trying to replicate it but with no joy. There's so much fanart up on tvdb now it seems a shame to look at the same thing all the time.

it's working fine for me. the only thing that's changed since v1.03 is that i increased the delay before the scrolling starts. could you check if it works if you wait just a little longer ?
in case it's still not working, let me know which view (fanart, slide, media-info, etc...) and what content (tv-shows, episodes, movies, artists, etc...)

i don't think you can do that with the plugin...but i'll double check the examples given by nuka1195.
One thing though, I'm not the biggest fan of the new video OSD. Takes up rather too much space and I really liked the old one. Any way of having both available to give the user the option of which one they want?
i'm afraid you'll have to get used to it. i will try to make it slightly more compact (decrease the height), but it won't be much.
Also while I'm here - any chance of season-specific fanart for TV shows at all? I've got specific fanart for season 4 of Weeds somehow, been trying to replicate it but with no joy. There's so much fanart up on tvdb now it seems a shame to look at the same thing all the time.
it's not supported by xbmc, so there's little i can do.

it's working fine for me. the only thing that's changed since v1.03 is that i increased the delay before the scrolling starts. could you check if it works if you wait just a little longer ?
in case it's still not working, let me know which view (fanart, slide, media-info, etc...) and what content (tv-shows, episodes, movies, artists, etc...)
are you using the default font, or one of the 4x3 fonts?
a screenshot would be nice, if possible?

It didn't really have anything to do with the fonts, the actuall boxes were ontop of one another if you scanned music and movies at the same time (I'm sure not many try this)

Wow just realised how amazing this skin is - didn't know about the 'hidden' skins setting on the 'settings' page - this really opens the whole thing up and brings it to life - fabulous job on the skin.
Fraid the auto-scrolling thingy isn't working for me, just left it on for 30 seconds and there is no movement at all. Keep up the great work - this skin has the potential to be the best - oh what the heck I'll stick my neck out - IT IS THE BEST!!!!! :grin:

i don't have all the details, but it has something to do with running two scripts at the same time, so it may not be limited to just the weather plugin and the recently added script.

Disabling the weather.com plus plugin seems to have cured the crash upon startup.

as far as i know a skin can only be designed for a fixed number of resolutions:
PAL, NTSC, PAL 16x9, NTSC 16x9, 720p and 1080i.
most of the currently available (newer) skins are 720p only.

Hi guys, i've another trouble. I've installed trasparency on my vista pc and it's all ok... Then i've installed it on a win xp pc and there's something strange... I don't see background in the various menu... In the setting background page where i can chose multi image single image and default I see a string of code in the square under... do you know why? I don't make something different from my pc with vista.. Before i was using horizon but also in my vista pc I was using that and there is all ok... Ideas? Thank you bye bye

Got to the bottom of the problem it is not skin related!
I had updated to build 22701 which seems to have gfx problems, went back to 22528 and all is well!
I do get the weather crashes but with it diabled its all good!

By back button, I assume you mean the left arrow on the remote, anyway, I tired the backspace, the ESC, the delete and the Tab keys.

if you're using it for the first time, you have to enable it:
Settings > Videos > General > Extract media metadata information
and delete your video database and rescan all your movies to the library.

there are some issue with the apple movie trailers in xbmc, i'm not 100% sure if it's related to your problem. you'll have for ask for help in the Home Theater Experience thread.

i'm not sure if i understand you correctly, but if you want to play trailers from your own library instead of apple movie trailers you have to configure the Home Theater Script.
Set the "Trailer Scraper" to "Local Folder".

when you add tv shows to the library, pick the tvdb.com scraper. it will download banners by default. (if you want posters instead, you'll have to select 'prefer posters' in the scraper settings)

the video settings dialog will be fixed in the next release.
for all the other screens: Transparency! is a 720p skin.
the errors you're getting are because you are using it on a 4:3 screen.

yep, that's the code to remove from View-Fanart.xml (Fanart-Artists_Extras section)
also you may want to change the size and position of the textbox a little below this code.

Them say if i not understand it wrong that the code in the SVN are braked and i wait untill that are fixed, I run my XBMC on my XBOX so i wait before i update it. But i just have 1 question the pic of the movies font and stuff are in a box. Like a CD-Box or CD-Case i just wanne know if this CD-Case are standard and the skin automatic just put the pic in there or if you have edit the whole pic whit box for every movie/serie.

just google 'xbmc nightly builds' and you'll find a stable svn build for the xbox.
But i just have 1 question the pic of the movies font and stuff are in a box. Like a CD-Box or CD-Case i just wanne know if this CD-Case are standard and the skin automatic just put the pic in there or if you have edit the whole pic whit box for every movie/serie.
the skin puts the cd and dvd cases around the covers. you don't have to do it manually.

well, it was on auto, but still has the same thing with 720p 16:9
here's all the places i see it happening (all under settings)
Music - Files (Track naming template, Track naming template right)
Music - Scrobbler (Last.fm username/password, Libre.fm username/password)
Music - CD Ripping (Track Naming Template)
Network - Servers (FTP username/password, Web Server port/username/password)
Network - Auto-Detection (Nickname)
Network - SMB Client (username, password, WINS Server, Workgroup)
Appearance - Region (Time server host)
seems to happen on stuff that gets grayed out.

i can only reproduce it if i set my resolution to anything besides 720p (PAL 4:3 or 480p 16:9 for instance)
but than the error occurs in every skin, which makes me believe it's a xbmc bug:

the video settings dialog will be fixed in the next release.
for all the other screens: Transparency! is a 720p skin.
the errors you're getting are because you are using it on a 4:3 screen.
I wasnt able to choose 16:9 because of some conflict between Dashboard and XBMC...now, its ok .....sorry to disturbing you for such things...i apologize ^^

Im running the full version of Transperancy! v2.0 on my XBOX with a slightly older nightly build (pre-patched version that allows native media flagging) and havent had any issues whatsoever pulling flags for my videos. However, I do rename my files to indicate what format they are from but for the most part Transperancy! does an excellent job in determining the other flags for the video.
Mind you I had to rescan a few movies at a time and redo my fanart and dvd images again to my liking :eek:
I can also get proper MPAA and studio flags, after switching over to IMDB as my movie scraper as you suggested :grin:

there are two builds available:
- a patched version, that supports native media flagging. if you're using this one, you don't have to copy the files and you don't need a media manager.
- the 'normal' version, that only supports 'skin based' media flagging. in this case you have to copy those two files and use a media manager as explained above.

When I select a background for eg. VIDEO in the home menu and set it as default, the skin does not remember it and switches back to the 'shark/tv' background. What am I doing wrong here?

Is it is possible to change the name of the standard menus in the home screen? I would like to rename Movies to Films (Dutch for Movies) and Video to Trailers.
you can definitely change the names of the menu options.
i would do a search within the Transperancy! thread as I know for a fact, Ronie has posted instructions on how to do this.

only by editing Includes_Home.xml. there's a HorizontalMenu and a VerticalMenu defined in this file, you'll have to change the <label>foo</label> of the appropriate buttons in those sections.
Anyone got their Visualizations working?
Whenever I try to run mine I only see the Home menu background image appear. None of the visualizations seem to work.
Visualization works perfectly with the Mediastream skin enabled....
And yes...I did enable the option to use visualization when playing music in the settings.

it's not been reported before, all i can tell is it works on linux.
check if you haven't accidentally enabled 'safe mode' in Skin Settings, cause this will disable fanart in filemode in most places.
otherwise a debuglog might tell me more...

It could be due to your build as CDART is working on my XBOX fine.
You just have to make sure your music files are tagged properly according to XBMC in order to allow CDART to work properly.

CAn you pls tell me what number references games? And what language file for English do I need to change as based upon your description, I could essentially just change the single instance in the language file from Game to UFC and this would be alot smoother and easier than trying to change multiple spots within the Includes_Home.xml file.

i customize shutdown menu, remove shutdown, restart, hibernate, suspend buttons. when i press S to display shutdown menu, the default option is still shown as Shutdown, except no button is actually selected. pressing left/right then selects and display correct button name. i am not sure what would happen if i just pressed select on no-button-shown Shutdown, i dont want to shut the server down. is this a bug or feature?
