nice mods.
anyway, what i really care about is it's usability as a music player.
i'd like to know if xbmc + lcd are a effective solution for music browsing and playback with any need to turn the tv-screen on.
thank you!

it *seems* that this rocks
https://www.bmmods.com/custome....&page=1 (https://www.bmmods.com/customer/product.php?productid=16209&cat=262&page=1)
it has four lines and it seems very bright. never tried out anyhow, just planning a buy.

that's exactly the same lcd that i'm using in one of my projects:
http://members.home.nl/geertvl/projecten/acs2/dsc00014.jpg
i payed 20 euro (+/- 20 dollar) for it.
today they are cheaper...
sure, the same? it looks much brighter and with yellow chars in the pics.
what a shame.
how does it looks from a certain distance? i mean, i would be able to read the name of the songs or of the directories while browsing from my sofa 4 meters away?
thank you very much.

i'm guessing its just the way the pics been taken-probably looks brighter in real life
@atmoz: some nice case mods there
thanks for the info, man those lcd's are cheap

i think the distance shouldn't be more then 3 meters.

yes, you're right. in real life the lcd's are much brighter and more readable. thanks for the compliment :d

hmm i have not an excellent sight but i'll try anyway.
now, the most two important things for my xbmc box are turning on via remote and have that fuc*ing dvd tray closing when i want!

that's easy to make if you have solder skils. i made this myself with a nice small home-made remote control (in an old mini-radio):
http://members.home.nl/geertvl/projecten/xbox_white/dsc00061.jpg
with this thing i can power on/off the xbox, turn on/off the controllerports lights (red) (http://members.home.nl/geertvl/projecten/xbox_white/dsc00060.jpg) and let the jewel light blue (http://members.home.nl/geertvl/projecten/xbox_white/dsc00057.jpg) if hd is loading...
it's also easy to open/close dvd tray with a remote.
but you need to have some solder skils.
succes anyway,
atmoz
man, your modding skills rocks hard.
i have no problem with a hot soldering iron in hand hanyhow.
what i really miss is about knowledge of electronics and engeneering. i can follow a tutorial if it is well written and step by step, i can accomplish it, without understanding the most :-( but i cannot even figure out how to make my "turning on and off" chip. i'm plannin to buy one here: http://cheaplpc.com/xir/default.asp
the problem with the tray is mechanic, anyway (it's not much useful to load it remotely, if you still have to access it to load or remove a disc).
i press the load/eject button when the tray is open but most of the time it get stuck and does not load. it makes noise (bzzzzz...), vibrates a bit, and then... nothing. the engine seems no more powerful enough. if i give it a very little push (just a touch) when the engine is trying to load, it works. if i push a little stronger without touching the button it loads, too, as it should. but if i press the button by itself, it (most) often doesn't.
i have no problems with ejecting.
have some suggestion about how to fix that?
also, is there some nice free online course an modding, power, resistance, lighs, voltage, and all that nice stuff? ;)
thanx you very much!
the problem is that i'm from the netherlands (so i speak dutch). and when i'm typing my messages i get stuck on words that i don't know. i also don't understand some words that you people use in your posts ;)
maybe someone who's talking english could help you.
i have some nice tutorial sites, but the are all in dutch...
greetz + succes,
atmoz
atmoz, that's an awesome remote!
i have the crystalfontz cfa634-tfb-ks, it's a bit hard to read when the room is too bright. i suggest getting the yellow + black font version i heard that one is more readable on a bright day.
