i have been looking at a 1tb HDD to store HD movies on and play them from the HDD with xbmc
http://www.amazon.co.uk/LaCie-Hard-Disk-design-Poulton/dp/B0012GTJXU/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
would that be ok to play HD movies from? it would be movies up to 1080p
i am asking because i do not know and the connection is usb 2.0
i just want to know if i would be ok with storing HD movies on this HDD and playing the movies with xbmc with the usb 2.0 it has
thank you
yeah, hd-video is typically 20-30mbit, usb2.0 can in theory do 480, in reality it's prob half that but you are still neatly covered.

I bellive the idea of playing HD movies smoothly without lag has alotta
more X factors to it than the brand of HDD ;) but offcourse
having a HDD in the first place is a good start.

Its fine LaCie make the box - chances are the drive inside is a Seagate, WD or similar... ;)

i have been looking at internal drives today and now i dont know what to do!
i think the lacie would look nice under my tv and it is 1tb
i have been looking at an internal drive that is 1.5tb for about the same price, but that would require me taking apart my pc and moving everything about, i built my pc so i can do it
but now i dont know what to do, what would everyone else do and why?
thank you
by the way, here is the internal HDD http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166989

Either way you will need to have your pc on to access either the usb external or internal hdd, what are you using to play the media files, a htpc or xbox ?
I have that drive and it is fine, good box. (It has a little noise though)
The fastest external drive USB that I have is a ICY BOX with a Samsung F1 1TB which worked out about £90 for the two together, it doesn't have a fan and runs great (Very quite).
I'll be getting another one next week but this time with the new cheaper Samsung F2 1TB drive which runs a little slower and cooler but still spot on for any 1080 MKV stuff at high bitrate.
