http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~mills/ntp/clock1a.html

<!-- remote timeserver used to set the xbox time/date!-->
<timeserver>ntp.uu.se</timeserver>

as i live in sweden i use a .se timeserver.

follow the above link and find one for your country/timezone.

hello,
a quick question about a problem i am have with the time server setting. whenever i turn on the feature in the xmbc dashboard to use the ntp time server (time.windows.com) it sets my time three hours ahead of actual time. my guess is somewhere there must be a config setting for the proper time zone and mine is set for say eastern time instead of pacific. i can tell that it is connecting to a time server to reset my clock it is just doing it three hours forward. anyone know where this is configured in the build???

thanks,
-captain morgan

@captain morgan, no, there is no such setting in xbmc, you must actually change your time-server (address) to a other server that that the correct time for your timezone

well for those of you who may have a similar problem i found the answer. the xbox default dashboard has a timezone setting to set your offset from gmt. once that is set correctly you should be able to use any time server.

i always set xbmc to check the internet for time but i wish there was a daylight savings option in there. i live in jamaica and xbmc always says the time one hour ahead. i dunno how to fix this. my computer says the right time cause windows has an option for daylight savings so can this be implemented into xbmc?

double check your timezone settings from the original ms dash. i'm fairly certain xbmc uses it when it calculates the time from ntp.

oh yea... im sorry, i forgot i even got the ms dash :joker: ..lol

thanks for the help......apparently i was in the wrong timezone, i was using the eastern timezone when i should be using central.

it would still be a very nice feature to be able to select time-zone (http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.pl?act=st;f=4;t=5982) and enable/disable daylight savings time from within xbmc gui settings :saint:

an option to enable/disable daylight savings-time (http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.pl?act=st;f=4;t=14927) from within xbmc gui settings would also be a very nice feature :saint:

if you have the ms dash on your hdd then you can run it as an app and it will work. my hdd is unlocked and i use that method and it worked.

why not simply add an option to offset the received time by +/- 0-24h. this would solve the problem of finding an appropriate time server and also the daylight savings time!

i have the daylight savings problem too. i already searched for a server in timezome +2 to temporary solve this, but i could not find any...

i have a few problems with time.

in: settings > apperance > date & time

if i set to enable internet synchronization it always sets it to one hour previous. i even setup my own ntp server and it still sets it to one hour previous.

if its after 1pm and i try to manually change the time to any time above 1200 hours it will change the date and make it some wierd time.

i think there must be a timezone setting somewhere. i recently moved from pacific time zone to mountain time zone.
which is one hour difference.

the reason why this is a problem is because im using the xbmcmythtv script, and it wont let me watch recorded media because the time is reporting wrong (even when i set it manually)

thanks in advance for your help!

perhaps it's supported by configmagic?

skrjon

i just downloaded and am running config magic. timezone isnt one of the choices.

just in case someone is interested the options to change on the eeprom in configmagic are:

serial number
mac address
video & xbox region
online key
dvd kit zone
dvd drive model
unique hdd key
hdd model number
hdd serial number
current hdd unlock password

well, the eeprom does have timezone settings stored, see xkeeprom.h

bytetimezonebias[4];// 0x64 - 0x67 zone bias?
uchartimezonestdname[4];// 0x68 - 0x6b standard timezone
uchartimezonedltname[4];// 0x5c - 0x6f daylight timezone
byteunknown4[8];// 0x70 - 0x77 unknown padding ?
bytetimezonestddate[4]; // 0x78 - 0x7b 10-05-00-02 (month-day-dayofweek-hour)
bytetimezonedltdate[4]; // 0x7c - 0x7f 04-01-00-02 (month-day-dayofweek-hour)
byteunknown5[8];// 0x80 - 0x87 unknown padding ?
bytetimezonestdbias[4];// 0x88 - 0x8b standard bias?
bytetimezonedltbias[4];// 0x8c - 0x8f daylight bias?

so, i guess you'll need the msdash, alternatively you could easily hack a program together yourself using xkutils.

I recently installed some ethernet wiring behind my walls and now my Xbox is feeling it's first tast of the Internet... however cool I thought XBMC was before, it's just making me drool now! But I've been having one problem so far that I can't figure out.

Settings>Apperance>Region (or Settings>Weather>Region, same place), I check "Enable Internet Time Synchronization" and the time automatically jumps back 2 hours from what I had it set manually. I live in Florida, so I need the Eastern Time Zone (GMT -5, or GMT -4 for daylight savings), but for some reason it will only display the time two hours behind my current time.

I have the region set to USA, there is no more precise time zone option in the region setting (I also have all 3 cities in the Weather settings set to cities in my time zone, if that matters). I tried changing the default time server to one I knew was hosted in my time zone, but got the same problem. Feeling kind of stupid here, but I can't find an option to change the time zone for the life of me!

Also, on an unrelated issue, but on the same menu, is there a way for me to change the Date display format to "YYYY-MM-DD" instead of the "Month DD, YYYY" or "DD Month, YYYY" presets for North America and UK respectively? I don't mind if it involves some manual file editing.

I'm using the 2006-09-13 CVS T3CH build of XBMC.

I think it relies on the region you set in the MS Dash.

And yeah, the date format is set in the file langinfo.xml in the language/English folder. You can add a region specifically for you in there.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Ha, you're right! I've never actually used the MS Dashboard before, and it was still set to the time zone of the previous owner. Thanks for the help!

If would be very nice if the time-zone information (and daylight savings-time too if possible) could be grabbed of the internet, like of a site like timeanddate.com/ (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/)

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/

any volunteers?

if i choose the dutch langage
no time zone is available , so time adjustment with servers does not work well
after updating clock is 1 hour behind
(it should be gmt+1)

congratulations with the 2.0.0. version !

You can set the timezone in the MS Dash.
