Hey all! My wife and I switched from Mediaportal to XBMC two months ago, and I have been ecstatic at how great it is. The only problem I've run into is this: my HTPC isn't very powerful (a Celeron), and HD content basically brings it to a standstill, unless I turn on VDPAU. So I would normally just keep VDPAU on... except that a good portion of our video library is subbed anime, and VDPAU won't display certain subtitles since there's no overlay code for it yet.
Since it looks like the overlay code might be a little ways off, what about a compromise: an option to have XBMC automatically switch between software rendering for SD content and VDPAU for HD content. Or, alternatively, have it switch to software rendering if it detects subtitles.
For now I can just switch methods manually, of course, but it would be a great feature to have for those of us who have less powerful machines.
