MiniMeedia v0.92 Released (25/06/2009)

Another week, another release.

The main addition this time is further media flags (video codec and aspect) as well as tidying up how the media flags are displayed in genereal.

The info dialogs for the movies and episodes have been rewritten so as to fit in another 'page' of info - the text values for all the various media flags. Pressing left/right will navigate you through the info on these dialogs.

Another new addition is the ability to display animated weather icons on Home. This is based on the work done by Silverxxx in this thread (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=52053). It is disabled by default but, if you download the animated thumbs from Sliverxxx's thread then place them in the folder that contains the custom weathe background images, you can then enable it.

The main changes are as follows:

Added: Displaying of video codec flags to Showcase view and video info dialogs
Added: Video Aspect & Video Resolution flags to all views (except Waterfall) for movies
Added: Video Aspect & Resolution flags to Showcase view and video info dialogs for episodes
Added: Displaying of text values for each of the new media flagging attributes to the movie and episode info dialogs
Added: Code to display animated thumbs on Home screen (place icon pack in custom weather BG folder)
Added: Option to turn the animated weather on/off
Added: French translation (thanks to luuuke78)


Fixed: Tidied up logic for displaying wider text on Full Video OSD (to get rid of any overlapping when plot is visible)
Fixed: Removed extra shadow on top of portrait thumbs in List view

Use Recent Version of XBMC
In order to get the best out of this release you need to be using a version of XBMC built in the in the week or so (since the changes to XBMC for media flags has only just been added). As yet the media flagging has not been added to a t3ch release so just use the most recent available.

If you do decide to use it without an up to date version of XBMC then you may find that you can't see any of the media flags and none of the backgrounds appear. You have been warned. :shocked:

In this version I've added support for Genre Poster Packs (such as the one in this thread - Movie Genre Posters (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45361)). Background Images
The skin itself does not contain any real background images since most users will already have a set of background images that they like (for MediaStream and Aeon skins etc) and I assume most users will be using fanart for the Movies and TV Shows anyway.

I have a nice set of custom background images that I use and aim to provide download links so that users can use these if they want.

Thanks for spotting that, I'll fix it for the next release.

You should just download the windows version of XBMC get the feel of it, learn how the library works, etc...it'll take 1min to download and install. All versions of XBMC are practically the same. It's a simple program yet highly configurable at the same time.

To answer your question:
You'll have a folder called skins you just put the minimedia folder(with all the contents) inside the skins folder. All done.

Then after install just put the BG's on your xbox hdd and set the paths in MiniMeedia.

Weather screen is going to be overhauled when I look into adding extra weather stuff from Nuka's weather plugin. Will look at adding animated weather at that point.

The code for finding the icons is:

So if your custom weather BG folder (where the weather fanart pack is for me) is C:\XBMC Stuff\_backgrounds\weather\ then you want to place the icon pack in this folder too. In this example the images for rain/lightning should be in C:\XBMC Stuff\_backgrounds\weather\icon\00\

I think the animated icons original expanded into icon\icon so make sure it is ...\weather\icon\00\ and not ...\weather\icon\icon\00\

Hi skunk

I am noticing a slight problem when I try to navigate to my music playlists from the home menu.

When I press right on the main menu over the music icon and navigate to the playlist option and press it, it brings me out of library mode to the list of my music folders.

After I do this and back out of the folder to the main menu and go into the music icon on the main menu, it brings to file mode, and I have to manually enter back into library mode.

Hope that made some sort of sense.

Goto this thread the fanart works with the XBOX as I am using it. All i had to to was use MiniMeedia Version 0.92 and download the optimised fanart pack in the thread below and point it to the weather fanart folder.

They work fine on the xbox, if the location of the icons isn't in the weather folder.

Edit:

I would make in skin settings a tab for weather (isn't there yet) where you could set the background folder path , Weather icon path, enable animated weather icons in Home and animated weather icons in weather.

As i said before i moved the icon to the media folder and change code to get the icon from the media folder and works great on the xbox.

I got the idea of moving it from transparency that has in the xpr and works on the xbox.

My media folder now contains .xpr genre folder and icon folder.

Waffa is right a set folder for animated icons would resolve the issue.

Or, like genres, put it in the media folder :)

i've got windows build 21219 which is 2 days old and still nothing. i get resolution, sound, codec, and rating on some tv shows, but no studio or movie ratings. i'll try 21237 and see if that changes anything. also, should i rescan my library?

edit* tried 21237, no dice. i'm going to rescan my library and see if that fixes it. does it matter what scraper i use? i currently use tmdb, would imdb give better results?

I noticed 2 small issues with the 25-6 release so far:
- When pressing info on a movie and going to the cast section I can't go through the cast list and thus not select them.

- The media info icons are sometimes overwritten by the movie length indicator. This will happen if there are multiple versions (like extended version of country specific versions of a movie) where both runtimes are displayed.

I still an Aeon guy but the more I play with this skin the more I like it, great job!! On my HTPC I use Aeon but this skin is a must for the XBOX, so much smoother and easier to mantian.

Anyways I have all my clearart for the pause menu(http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=51705) sitting around I like to see if I like to add it to this skin but your dialogseekbar.xml is different from Aeon. Where would I start?

Hey. I use an XBOX for my MiniMeedia (great job btw). Just a small issue, on my TV Shows thing (I am using showcase) you can't see the number of episodes because the 'channel' icon blocks. (Sorry I can't give a pic, I don't know how to screenshot on the XBOX, so I highlighted the area which I am talking about on one of your screenshots so you can understand a bit better lol).

There was more information added to the Showcase view in the latest release which is probably what is causing the overlaps for you now. The code for the view is in ViewsCommon.xml if you fancy having a bash at correcting it for 4:3 yourself.

Yep, this is one I've known about for months but was hoping that no-one would spot it so I wouldn't have to try and fix it :shocked:

It's to do with focus states and I've tried to fix it in the past without success but maybe this time I'll get it!

I have one suggestion. When you pop a DVD in (I'm using an xbox) the DVD home screen comes into play which is great if playing dvd movies. However, is it possible to add 'browse files' and 'eject/load' when you press right?? Cheers :)

Hi, it's in the high list view.. Sorry no screenshots right now as I'm not anywhere near my HTPC at the moment.

But consider this when you look at the runtime section: For example the movie the Da Vinci Code comes back with
149 min | 174 min (extended cut) as the runtime from IMDB
(see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382625/)

This will not fit in the space provided.. maybe we need a scrolling section here if it extends x characters?

Did already asked xbs08 what he tought of clearArt and cdArt in MiniMeedia.

He gave me a very nice example of clearArt in MiniMeedia:nod:, but we didn´t discuss over cdArt.

Maybe the cover is to litlle for cdArt.
Does it go whit the concept.

What do you guys think ???
I like it in transparency.

Also, I do miss a little dialog that tells how fast FF/RW, maybe combi that with cdArt....

Did some testing and seems to work good in PM3 HD ,but having problems with MiniMeedia. Flags show, skin works, but very high CPU, 100% constantly. (PM3 Only uses 30 %.)
With result that video files are hard to start, very hard !!

Nice efficient skin. one of my favourites.
Just a quick question:
what i really like about minimeedia is the way it "outsources" most of the BG artworks.
Could this be extended to genres thumbs?

@Waffa: most clearArt pngs were made specifically for Auriga, where they are stuck on the right border of the screen. it makes them impractical (and sometimes downright ugly) on other skins where this positioning can not be implemented, because of ungainly "floating cuts". but it the clearArt concept could standardized so as to make sure they always work in ANY position, it could be a real boon.

My solution for now is simply symlinking my genre folder to skin/minimeedia/media but i was hoping for something more in the lines of weather fanart, or custom BGs

Im using this on the appleTV. Any while this performs far better on the appleTV than aeon, browsing the movies section (Im using library mode, don't know if there is a difference with Library mode turned off.) is very sluggish. Not sure what is causing it. I've disabled everything I can think of to disable. Downgrading the background images to 720 helped a fair deal, but not enough. Any suggestions? If performance were to improve, I'd be willing to switch to xbmc full time, away from my appleTV interface. Something I want to do so I can stop running iTunes 24/7

Have you tried 960*540?
xbox users say this improves performance maybe it improves on ATV too.

Have you tried 960*540?
xbox users say this improves performance maybe it improves on ATV too.

I'll give it a try, but it seems to run nice and smooth elsewhere. Haven't checked tv shows or music yet. I'll give those alooksee too. I think it might have something more to do with it polling the files for mediainfo, or something similar though. scrolling through the movie list seems more unresponsive than sluggish.

i dont get any menu when pressing the M key on music playing, just access to the visulization menu.

up or down doesnt allow me to get other options, so i dont know if there is no menu osd (like where you can record shoutcast streams)
i checked keyboard.xml (couldnt find keymap.xml) and found the m option u listed above:

BTW this is linux, not xbox. Havnt tried it on my xbox


A side note while I'm talking about Shoutcast streams....it would be awesome if you could see the bitrate of each stream, like the PM3 skin does. 1.fm has multiple streams for channel x, but only one is at 128kbps. Would be nice to know which stream I'm selecting

Have you downloaded a mod or updated your code as that screenshot doesn't look like anything I created? (the top menu does but the stuff at the bottom of the screen looks more like PM3 stuff?)

I havnt moded any code, nor added any mods. I am using v .92 on 3 linux computers and they all look like that when im in music. i have no access to any control menu nor other options besides the Visualization options.

Should it look/behave different?

Hhhmm strange screenshot, What Skunk already said.

You find your keymap.xml in xbmc/system (folder).
Open it with notebook and see all actions/buttons.

When you want to make changes do make a copy of the keymap and place it in the userdata and make the changes in that one.
And be sure you place it in the right userdata.:grin:

the keyboard.xml file has the m key listed in it (as stated in my first post) but that doesn't bring up a menu when in music. When I'm not in the visualization of the music, I can bring up the menu on the Now Playing window.

EDIT: Just as a test, i removed MiniMedia and redownloaded it and i still have this issue of no menu when in visualization mode

O'k I'm not using linux, but I see the differents.

They plit it up in linux (keymaps) or very new changes in xbmc, normally they are all together.(Keymap.xml)

What remote/keyboard do you use ??? :oo:Example keyboard.

Do open keyboard.xml and there you will see the commands and if needed you can change them.

so m is set to ActivateWindow(MusicOSD) and in the global it is set to ActivateWindow(PlayerControls). I have never seen the music OSD, only what i have shown u in the screenshot. So back to the original question....where is the music OSD???

Music OSD is what you see on top in your screenshot. !!

And when music playing and your in home then you will see Playercontrols with the menu button.

well thats silly (no offence). There is no pause, ff, rewind and more importantly there isnt any record button for shoutcast streams. The player controls should be on the Visualization screen as well as the other screens. Its silly to make me back out to access those controls.

You can have playercontrols in visualization.
Do change your keymap, you have 3 buttons that opens music OSD change one of them to ActivateWindow(PlayerControls) or make a new button whatever....

I don't think any of the releases I put together have backgrounds or weather folders in the same zip as the skin, have you downloaded one of the mods?

There are separate downloads for weather fanart and background images and you can place them wherever you like and you then need to update the skin settings to point to them.

I think it's already on most views is it not? (There are some views where it's not displayed in the Options Menu directly as it's difficult to have some of the options show up at the right time but try looking in the Skin Settings as it may be possible to do it from there).

Let me know if it's not possible (or you can't find it) and I'll look into it.

I was using the default font but a non-standard resolution. (1776x1000) due to overscan problems on my TV. Switched to 24h mode, to drop the additional AM/PM text, seems better but will check it out on the next release thanks.

Just checked, and forgot List View can have plot toggled too :] there is no setting in Skin Settings though and I wouldn't mind having plot optionally available for some other views, High list is very good candidate perhaps, but I'll leave that decision to you. At least one list view has it now, that's fine :)

The music playing info (bottom left) is now hidden when the lyrics is active.

Also when the music now playing info is visible on the music visualisation screen, pressing M on the keyboard will slide in the player controls (like it does with the music now playing info on other screens).

Normally I delete those adds.
Most of my files are dvdrips but sometimes I can't wait and grap a R5/screener.

I think this would be a great idea but for CAM you may run into problems where words such as camera, camp, or camero may be picked up and mislabelled as a CAM.

But outside of this, I think it would be an excellent idea.

No it would not pick up camp, etc..because

filename.CAM.avi
If fat isn't exactly the same it would not pick up the cam flag.

You can better rename/delete guisettings.xml (userdata). That will fix your mistakes.
xbmc and skins settings are default again and still have your skins and library.:;):

New build and re-install skins is pointless if you're going to use your old userdata.
If you messe something up, it's your userdata !

I was thinking of re-vamping my libraries and file structures as well so I thought it couldnt hurt to do a full re-install and see how xbmc works after such.

I appreciate your reply and for providing me information that I was unaware of.

To save any further delays I'm going to release the skin, as is, and also get it into the XBMC Skinning project SVN.

I just don't seem to be able to make the time for any skinning at the moment and with what is due to be coming up it's unlikely to change any time soon.

Once this release is out I'll aim to come back and fix any bugs but it's unlikely I'll be adding any new features in the near future.

Having just updated to the latest MiniMeedia my home page now doesn't display any backdrops? The backdrops display fine under Weather / TV Shows / Movies / etc, it's just the home screen that's black. I've tried just about everything I can think of, "Hide Weather Fanart" is turned off etc, am I doing something wrong?

Other than that, I've been using MiniMeedia for a while now and I think it's awesome! Definitely my favourite skin. The only thing I slightly miss, I think possibly from the Hitcher skin, is how easy it was to play movie trailers and TV episode previews - you'd press "down" from the movie/episode info screen. It's hardly much more difficult now, it's only a couple of clicks from "Refresh" to "Trailer", but maybe you could make the info screen default onto "Trailer" instead of "Refresh"?

EDIT: Thought I'd add that I'm running XBMC 9.04.1 r20672 and MiniMeedia v0.92
EDIT2: Updating to the latest svn version solved the problem.
