Video Codecs Preference

So I've been reading around on the interwebz for a while, comparing various video codecs & containers as best I could. I was curious what most people are using for their Shares / UPnP setups to their Xbox-1's.

I'll list my mine, and if we try to list them the same it should be pretty easy for someone to scroll through and find the predominate formats used

DVD files - Ripped & converted to mpeg2

Technically that isn't a conversion, just a change from .vob to mpeg2 as a .vob is an mpeg2

HD (720) - haven't started on those yet.


Note* - I claim to be NO expert in video codecs / formatting, so this poll benefits me as well. Also I'm aware the xbmc can handle vob files across the network - I change them so my 360 can use them as well

My Setup: NAS device 1.5TB x2 (raid1) where dumped (all protection removed, pure, whole disk) .iso DVD images are (1 movie = 5-7GB, one file). I have givenup with divX's, don't see any point anymore, DVD's are better. Samba Share, DVDplayer in Xbmc.

DVDs > AutoGK > Xvid + MP3.

There was a thread around here somewhere something about 720p on Xbox, personally I prefer a good quality two-pass Xvid encoding even at lower resolution.

DrDivx was what used a long time ago.. 2-pass with ac3.

AC3 audio stream takes a bit more than MP3 stream, leaving less room for video if you went for fixed size (e.g.700 MB), which may have resulted in a lower bitrate / poorer image...
