I am using 9.04 on ubuntu linux. This machine also has mythtv on board. It is set up for vdpau for both myth and xbmc. The system is a small form factor compaq box with 2.8G P4 and a pci-e 8400GS nvidia card outputting via dvi-hdmi to 1080p sony lcd.

I have no problems at all playing h264 material on both mythtv and xbmc and I have no problems playing xvid avi files in mythtv or with mplayer. They are SD resolution and not overly high bitrate. Of course h264 material has the benefit of vdpau.

However I have started having problems with xbmc and xvid avi files. They are jumpy and drop frames all over the place. audio gets out of sync. This is a hyperthreaded machine and one "cpu" is shown at 100% while the other is at about 18%. There doesn't seem to be any other processes hogging the system.

I am sure xbmc used to play such material just fine. As I say mplayer and myth internal player are just fine.

The files are stored on a linux server accessed via samba over a 100M wired network, the network is not saturated, in fact those are presently the only two boxes on the network. Anyway the same seems to happen with material on the local hard drive.

I suspect I have inadvertently made some setting change and forgotten what I have done. Does anyone have any suggestions or hints? If you need any other info let me know.

Thanks in advance.

sounds like upscaling is on but since you did not pastebin xbmc.log we have no have of telling anything at all about your setup.

Sorry I will do that tonight, I was just thinking avout it during lunch and posted from the office :)

If it is the upscaling, where do I fix it?

Let's find out the problem first before we start trying random solutions.
