MCE Remote without MCE?

Good afternoon, i have had xbmc on my xbox for a year or two and now I am getting it set up on a windows laptop, for now. I need to get a remote for this, my question is can I use the MCE remote from Microsoft without media center on my XP build?

Yes. I think most people use the program Eventviewer. Just do a search or look at the stickys for more info.
