To my best (and limited) understanding you currently need an OS install to run XBMC. I would love for an all in one install that will install and run XBMC on its own with out having the need for an OS.

This would be perfect for a MCPC.

I know this would be a huge task and is un-likely to happen but if it inspires one of the developers enough to give it ago then it could be a huge benefit for everyone.

I thought the live version you had to boot it from CD? Didn't know you could install it as a standalone OS/APP?

No from my own understanding you can run it live from the cd like you said but you are also given the option to install it with an operating system base of ubuntu linux.

You would have to inspire a whole team of developers for several years to get something like this. Even then it wouldn't be stable on all hardware. Having an OS under us is a good thing as it handles a lot of crap that we have no interest in dealing with. You haven't specified just what you think this would gain? I'm sure anyone who's taken even an introductory operating systems class could easily refute any claims.

Sorry that people have taken to this badly but thank you for understanding what my idea was.

I know it would be a huge task to make it a total standalone I understand somewhat of the share complex of writting a stand alone OS.

But hey isn't this what the idea section is for? to inspire developers with new a fresh ideas ;)
