OS: Windows XP SP3

So I have had xbox media center set up on my xbox for years now (pre-360) and just getting around to really setting everything up(because video features for the 360 suck). Anyway. I can see my computer using workgroup smb but cannot seem to connect to it; the process goes:
videos>workgroup(smb)network>workgroup>computer>login prompt

I enter my username and password exactly, hit ok, it sits for a second and brings the screen back up again, and i repeat. Why can't i get any further than this?

Settings:
DHCP: 192.168.1.111
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.(?)( goes off screen, can't fix it :/)
DNS: 66.215.64.14

PC:
DHCP: 192.168.1.101
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS: 66.215.64.14

I cannot connect to the internet on xbox either . Any idea's?

have you created an 'Xbox' user with password of 'Xbox' on your PC and gave that access to your shares?

This is the default user xbox uses

If you haven't updated XBMC in the last year or two, you'll need to get that done before you have SMB compatibility with your operating system.

Most of XBMC's internet related features also rely on the way certain websites are configured. For example, if your current install is over a year or so old, it won't be able to pull in weather details (as the weather site has been redone since then, and XBMC had to be updated to account for that).

Are you positive you have a user/password setup on the XP machine? In an xp machine you should be able to access shares without a username/password unless you have your computer setup with login required... This is the reason i use to always use XP on my server until i found the way to do the same thing in vista...
Turn on debug and attempt to connect to the machine and pastebin the log file... best way to see what the xbox is trying to do
