this is a kind of bluesky ramble on my part. i'm sure i'm not the only persone who's thought about this and so i'll put this out here and see if people know of projects/progress made in this area.
there seems to be a few usb based mpeg encoding devices these days. i saw one a few months back in a local electronics shop, a hauppage wintv pvr i believe it was.
anyway, it was external with tv inputs and a usb connection to hook it up to your pc. i know that the xbox controller connectors are essentially usb in a different form factor.
so i was wondering if there's been anywork done on this. i've not really looked around. but i can imagine scenarios where myth-tv or freevo running on xbox linux are using it.
off the top of my head, the technical issues range from probably having to get the usb devices firmware from the windows drivers by sniffing the usb connection. writing a driver to controll the unit. apps to do epg and scheduling of recording etc. big project.
anyway, thought i'd put that out there and see whats known about it already.
