I type xbmc as a user or root and get this

/usr/bin/xbmc: line 3: python: command not found ???

I had a perfectly working install of xbmc but then tried to install sopcast gui and it uninstalled alot of my stuff as part of a "vendor change".

I reinstalled everything and used this page to reload the prereqs

http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=Install_XBMC_on_openSUSE

I tried building from source and using the packman rpms.. no change

and this thread didn't seem to help

I don't see any xbmc log that could help

Somewhat new to linux so looking for some guidance.

Thanks

Running 32 bit opensuse 11.1

You need python for FEH.py. Or you need to edit xbmc start script.

I found the FEH.py file in /usr/share/xbmc

I ran rpm -q python and got
python-2.6.0-2.21.1

I am unclear about the start script. A google points to people writing their own, but I don't know where the default one for XBMC is..

Not sure where to go from here..

If you have python installed now, you shouldn't need to edit /usr/bin/xbmc which is the "start file" topfs2 was on about. If it's still broken for some reason, just comment out or remove the line that calls FEH.py

thanks for all the help. The tips I got lead me to the true culprit. Though I still don't totally understand what happened.

I was getting python not found because the system could not find python when I invoked it. If I typed python from the shell, it would tell me the command could be found, even though yast and rpm listed it as installed.

This article gave me the solution

http://forums.opensuse.org/applications/405239-looking-nzb-program-3.html

it told me how to repoint the pc to find python.

Now xbmc fires up, but I'm moving and haven't tested play back
