MiniMeedia v0.80 Released (21/05/2009)

Thanks to everyone for all the feedback over the last few days and all the help in tracking down bugs and issues. I've managed to deal with most of them (I think) and have also made a few improvements tweaks which will hopefully add to the skin.

The main changes are as follows:


Changed the way background images are loaded to make the transitions and loading a lot smoother (ONLY WORKS ON NEWER BUILDS OF XBMC!!)
Changed the way the code works for the backgrounds so that there is now separate Hide Fanart options for movies, tv shows, videos and music (they can now be configured independently of each other)
Updated the look of the slider control so that it fits better with rest of controls (see below)
Added new Slider Dialog (see below)
Added option to hide white noise background
Fixed hiding of Weather item on Home screen
Fixed Content Type labels display
Added Finish Time to Video OSD
Tidied up the look of the images used to select options on the Video/Music OSDs (Bookmarks, Audio Settings etc)
Tidied up widths of labels in list views (so that text does not overlap with watched icon)
Tidied up code for Videos submenu on Home screen (fix issues with Playlists etc)
Fixed label for weather on home option (was 'Show' but should have been 'Hide')
Fixed it so that Show Plot option will not show up in Options Menu when using High List view
Added 66 new studio logos
Added 18 new tv network logos
Tidied up some of the studio and network logos to make sure they are sized better in the skin
Added default file and default folder images
Added Korean translation (thanks to kimp93)
Added Dutch translation (thanks to jorisdekloris)
Portuguese translation (thanks to xbs08)
Added Hebrew translation (thanks to logictester)
Added Spanish translation (thanks to laope and Melandryu)
Added Danish translation (thanks to PiNCH)

This is fantastic for fine tuning audio offset etc as it allows you to see the video properly whilst adjusting it

In order to get the best out of this release you need to be using a version of XBMC built in the in the last week or so (since the changes to XBMC to allow background loading of multiimages). A new version of t3ch was released for xbox on 21st May, any earlier t3ch builds will not work with the skin.

If you do decide to use it without an up to date version of XBMC then you'll probably find that none of the backgrounds appear. You have been warned. :shocked:

If you do find any problems or have any suggestions on improvements to the skin please describe them as fully as possible and give screenshots where possible.

Background Images
The skin itself does not contain any real background images since most users will already have a set of background images that they like (for MediaStream and Aeon skins etc) and I assume most users will be using fanart for the Movies and TV Shows anyway.

I have a nice set of custom background images that I use and aim to provide download links so that users can use these if they want.

The skin is setup to work with Weather Fanart (the weather background should match the current weather conditions) and to get this working properly I recommend downloading timdog's Weather Fanart pack (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41650)

Weather background code was a bit wonky (technical term) but it's been fixed for next release.

Also changed the code so that it will display the custom videos background when in Genre, Year etc screens.

I would guess that there is probably some way to do it if there is a special path for the XBMC userdata folder. If the skin can find the userdata folder then it's simple to find the Fanart folder.

The fanart images are stored with tbn extension so not sure if that would cause a problem but it might be worth a try.

Either replace the folder or just copy the contents over the top of the previous version. Either should work

This release runs slower than your first one on my ATV. Could it have something to do with the fact that I'm running the official XBMC Babylon release and not the newest builds? (I just don't know how to get those newer builds). As you warned, none of the backgrounds appear, everything else seams to work fine.

I would love to use your skin as my default one but as deano72 already pointed out, for us ATV users it would be very important to have a stop / pause button on the osd whilst watching a film since we can't send those commands with the apple remote.

I Had to update my build on the xbox but man it is runs so freaking smooth now with your skin and applause for the smoothness of the backgrounds.

Memory problems on my xbox are history. XBOX is still in the game :nod:

It wasn't my original intention to create a slim skin for the xbox at all. I intended to create a more minimal skin that would allow the media fanart, posters and other images to take centre stage and it just so happens that seems to work very well on the xbox (especially when compared to memory hungry, and texture intensive, skins like MediaStream and Aeon).

It works fantastically well (and very smooth with the new background stuff JM did) on my PC at home too. Still a few things I want to do with it but it's definitely getting there :nod:

I found a weird bug, TV fanart doesn't show up on episodes missing cached thumbnails. If you assign a thumb the fanart will show, but only for episodes with cached thumbs.

Hi skunkm0nkee, the skin is truly remarkable.

It totally fits all my needs but alas i am still stuck with a CRT 4:3 TV. Please please please with sugar on top, is there any chance there could be an option to enlarge the fonts a bit (preferably the Arial fonts)?
Right now the fonts are just readable (it does train my eyes constantly...hey maybe my optometrist would approve... :)) and i think that just a step or two in font size would do wonders.
If not then ill have to use my Uni tuition money to buy an LCD TV :;):...

If it helps narrows things down, this worked fine on 0.75. I also noticed that music artist fanart only shows up on the artist level, but not the album and songs ones, which also works fine on 0.75.

I like to rate my music songs, you can do it very easy in visualation view by pressing up or down arrow on your remote.
It still works but the info label in visualation view does not show rating so you can't see what you're setting.
Please have a look at it.

Changing view mode in fullscreen doesn't display view mode, sizing and resolution like others skins, is this intentional?

Push titel/guide button and you will get the sizing and resolution menu and then you will see the view mode.:nod:

So it must be intentional, to keep it clean. (I like it this way.)

Im using rev 20487 and have no problems on the xbox, with fanart and High list View.
Did you set dvdplayer deault in advanced settins.xml ?
Mplayer should be the default player and that one plays here fine.

I really like this theme :)
Has a good layout, nice clean graphics.

Only thing I'm missing after using Aeon for awhile is the Multiplex Info, but I think its just not made for every skin... But would be nice if a Viewtype similar to Multiplex would be there. I dunno, with Multiplex it just looks so... Home Cinema like ;)

Other thing I noticed is, that it would be nice to be able to select single Images as a Backdrop.

But other than that: I really like it. I even prefer it over Aeon right now due to the Actor Thumbnails, clean layout and support for wide TV Show Thumbs.

Things I would like to see are:

- A bigger Showcase Menu, and somehow the icons doesnt seem centered but a little off, I always have kind of a black space right of the Icons. I use it on my Laptop, 1440x900 Resolution, if that makes any sense...

Also is it not supported by xbmc and you have to place the extra thumbs in your files..

2. A shutdown timer in shutdown menu, like in PM3.HD, when up/down is pressed with shutdown focused.

Ive tested the skin on my laptop and another machine and i still dont get OSD on video playback. I only get the time and the pause button but no time left, current length etc..

Someone suggested calibrating the screen (??) ive even tried that but i dont think it has to do with the OSD.

Hope it s a bug and not an evil Voodo curse against me.. :)

I don't have any plans to add genre thumbs to the xpr at this time. That may change in the future but at the moment it's not on the agenda. As far as I'm aware you can still download the genre images yourself and assign them to the various genres so you will see them when browsing to the Genres entry point?

Have you downloaded the weather fanart pack as mentioned in the first post? It may also be worthwhile sticking an image or two in the root of the weather images so that there is something to display when you can't get a connection to the current weather conditions.

It's certainly not a feature but not sure why it's not working for you (it seems to work fine for me). In the next release I've done a few tweaks to the OSD anyway so hopefully it'll work properly for you then.

I plan to revisit the Showcase view pretty soon as I coded it way back near the start of development and haven't really polished and improved it since. (I mostly use the list views so don't really see it too often. Out of sight, out of mind etc etc)

1. Not sure about this as the flag would flip all fanart (it's not really practical to have separate flags for every piece of fanart) and I would guess that isn't really what you want?

Yep, you'll find the required options in the TV Shows and Movies sections of the Skin settings.

No idea I'm afraid as I can't even remember where I got most of them. The collection of images I have has been gradually built up over time and came from quite a few places I think.

As far as I remember I never scaled any of them though so if the original was 1920x1080 then it should still be that size.

Yeah indeed, the 1 out of 5 stars (song rating) doesn't show in the (little) info field and it needs to because you can set it when visualsation view is showing by pressing up/down. Try it out in MediaStream it's a nice feature.

Btw. song rating can also be set by pressing info and go to rating and set it.
But setting it in visualsation view, is easier and faster.

I don't have any plans to add genre thumbs to the xpr at this time. That may change in the future but at the moment it's not on the agenda. As far as I'm aware you can still download the genre images yourself and assign them to the various genres so you will see them when browsing to the Genres entry point?


It's not a feature of xbmc to asign thumbs to genres, year, etc.
Only the skinner can support it.

djh (aeon) did create a moviegenre folder in the media folder.
It's empty and it's up to the user to fill it with thumbs. (example, Action.jpg)

You could do the same, so we grab the media folder from SVN put the thumbs into the moviegenre folder and compress it by ourselfs to an .xpr file.

Do have a look to the media folder of Aeon and see for yourself.

You do have already a folder called studios in textures.xpr.
You can asign those thumbs the same way as the genre thumbs.

You would be the first skinner that would use the studio thumbs for library search.
But you have to be quick. The operation (PMIII HD mod) is working on it.
Moviegenre thumbs are already implemented in that skin.
Btw. I have to say it, The operation is a damn good mod.:grin:

I know this 0.80 version needs an up to date build of XBMC, but I'd rather stick with an 'stable' release, since XBMC's computer is a dedicated HTPC, and my wife and kids would kill me if I told them to wait for a newer build because the last one had a bug...you get the idea.

So, is there anything that could be 'backported' to the 0.75 version? Bugfixes, typos? I'm not talking about the changes that depend on newer features of XBMC introduce after Babylon, of course.

It's hard enough to maintain one version never mind maintaining a version to work with the most up to date version and another to work with the stable version of XBMC. I would recommend updating to a newer build. The fact that it's not stable doesn't mean it won't work and even if there are any issues then they are usually resolved pretty quickly and it's a cinch to use XBMCUpdater to get new versions.

Are you using default font?
Minimeedia has a larger font.
