If this is too off topic (since it's more to do with Ubuntu than XBMC), then please delete this thread, otherwise I would highly appreciated some help.
Here's my situation:
I have a machine with a Radeon 9600 video card (with HDMI) setup to be a HTPC with XBMC outputting to a TV and/or a Projector. I have connected things directly, via a HDMI switcher, and via my AV receiver and in each case the outcome is the same. If I switch the input selection on one of the devices to display another input, when I switch back to HDMI it tells me there's no signal. If I don't switch the input selection the signal stays on the TV or Projector indefinitely, so it's not that the signal actually cuts out. It seems that it just doesn't reestablish a link from the computer to the display devices. Based on my testing I know for sure it's the computer. The only way so far that I've been able to restore the connection is to hit CTRL+ATL+Backspace to restart the Windows X, which also reinitialized the display, etc. However, I'm wondering if there might be a command that I can run from the command prompt that would do the same things and restore the connection. That way I would create a keyboard or remote shortcut for this command and can restore things without having to restart Windows X.
Btw, I'm running Ubuntu 8.04.
Thanks,
Harry
