Hello,

I setup my new HTPC. Asus 8500 gt + P4 3.2HT over HDMI

It will play 1080p mkv and anything I throw at it. But I am noticing xbmc in my room running off of an old geforce 2mx is much smoother.

Even on SD content my 8500 gt system will not play video as smooth. So I looked at the info and anything I play off of my HTPC is playing at 23.98-24fps. Blue ray rips, TV shows, VDPAU, anything. They all display at 24fps.

Now I noticed the info on my tv, when I had it hooked up over VGA said 50hz. Is there something I need to do to get HDMI to display above that? This may be a dumb question but I have been unable to find anything relevant through searching.

Up next is getting HDMI audio to work. but I need to fix this first. 24fps is just low enough for me to notice a difference. do I need to switch xorg to use a higher refresh rate over HDMI?

Thanks.

Ok so I think I narrowed this down to my graphics card is only displaying in 24hz over HDMI. Over VGA it is 50hz. My TV is a Dynex 42in 1080p LCD 60hz. So I guess this is the wrong xorg config (xbmc live made it for me):

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Unknown"
ModelName "Unknown"
HorizSync 28.0 - 33.0
VertRefresh 43.0 - 72.0
Option "DPMS"
EndSection

I tried to run that amlc thing but nowhere on the internet can I find my horizontal and vertical min and max sync rates. So I don't really know where to go from here. Is there a way to autodetect them?
