Hi All,
I am trying to use Eventghost (like I've read many others do,) for starting XBMC with a simple button push on my MCE remote. I installed Eventghost just like the WIKI and documentation said, but I cannot get Eventghost to see any button pushes on my MCE remote. Here's my system info:
- Dell Optiplex 755
- 2GB RAM
- Windows XP SP3
- Eventghost 0.3.7 r965
- MS MCE remote model 1039 (RC6 ir)
The MCE receiver is connected to a USB hub that is connected into one of the rear ports on my PC. The latest XBMC works just fine with the remote natively, so I know the remote works. Can anyone offer some suggestions to help me out???
Thank You
PAsqual
You need to give a little more info on what you have done in eventghost so far..
Firstly ensure you have the 'Microsoft MCE Remote' plugin added to your eventghost configuration, next create a macro with an action to launch XBMC.
Then with event ghost open press the desired button on the remote, you should see the event pop up in the list on the left hand side window of EG, then just drag the desired remote command over to the macro.

so far, i've installed eventghost, added the MCE plugin, and created the macro to launch xbmc. The macto works fine when I test launch it in eventghost. The problem is that Eventghost does not recognize any MCE remote btton pushes. i press buttons on teh remote, the receiver LED blinks, but Eventghost does not show any events in the log.
[Reminder - the MCE remote works natively in XBMC already, so I know the remote and receiver are not the issue.]
I must be missing some simple but crucial step in teh setup of Eventghost. Can anyone assist?
Thanks
Pasqual
Occasionally when I start Eventghost, it fails to load my config file so the XBMC plugin doesn't load. I have to do a file open to get the right config file loaded and then all is fine. Are you seeing the XBMC plugin loading in the left pane?

I'm not loading the XBMC plugin because the MCE remote already works just fine natively with XBMC. I just need Eventghost to do one thing - detect a button push on my MCE remote and run xbmc.exe. That's it. The problem is that Eventghost doesn't detect any MCE remote button pushes even with the MCE remote plugin loaded. By the way I do see the MCE remote plugin load in the left (log) window.
Any other ideas anyone???
Thanks

I would like, read the tutorial, its a sticky in this forum. You need the MCE Plugin to pickup MCE remote signals...

Remco9999, if you had read my post I state that the MCE remote plugin is loaded in EG, but for some crazy reason, EG just doesn't show any button pushes. Could it be that the MCE reciever is plugged into a USB hub instead of direct into teh computer???

Eventghost only works correctly with admin privileges. Right click "run as administrator"... even if your account has admin access, you have to accept the uac prompt.
It's a pain because if you are running as a standard user, you have to run XBMC in portable mode because otherwise all your userdata is stored in the admin's appdata folder. Also, it's a major security issue.

LaTropa64,
I'm using XP, not Vista, so "run as administrator" should be moot. My account is an administrator.

If EG does not "see" any IR then your IR Receiver is not talking to EG properly. Could be a conflict where more than one app is trying to use it at a time and it will not work - not sure
You might want to post EG problems in the EG forum

I don't understand how your MCE remote works natively with XBMC. Out of the box, the only buttons that should work are up, down, left, right, and OK. Are you using another remote control software, like IR Server Suite?

Livin, I was thinking of a conflict with another program also, but xbmc is not running all the time and I dont have any other program that I use with teh remote. I did post thsi issue in the EG forums 2 days ago and got no responses. Meanwhle I have 5 here in the xbmc forums. I figured most people here are well versed enough with EG to help out.
Thanx.

Nate, I was told by Phi that XBMC for windows automatically supports the MCE remote and it definitely does. Play, ffwd, Rew, skip, even the Power button shuts down XBMC. Perhaps somehow I have a plugin or another app running in the background that I don't know about??? Perhaps this is conflicting with EG??? Can anyone think of a way that I can find this out??

Well I have some more information that might be of interest. I was building a new Windows XP PC as a replacement for one of my old modded Xboxes (with xbmc) that died. I installed XP SP3 and then the 9.04 release of XBMC and guess what my MCE remote doesn't control XBMC like it does for my current computer. So is it possible that there's a subversion of XBMC that has a plugin to handle MCE remote input directly and thsi could be conflicting with EG??? I'm going to install a portable version of 9.04 on my computer tonight and see if it works teh same way the older version of XBMC does with teh remote. Wish me luck.

Not out of anger, just to be 100% clear...
XBMC has NOT EVER HAD remote control capability built-in
I hope bolding and caps helps clarify what has been said 100x before in many threads.
if you have EG problems, post on the EG forum.
