ive setup my home network with a wireless router (with the internet connected via a cable) and my xbox is equiped with a wireless wet11 adapter.

i have to have the tcp/ip setup as obtain automatically as my isp is dynamic. if i set it to static i cant connect to the web, also i cant connect if i configure my network connection to the 10/base duplex as advised in the tutorials.

i can connect to the wireless bridge to make changes to the setup. however i still cant ftp to the xbox (ill sort this later)

if i configure the nic to the settings for the net i cant have the required settings for the xbox connection. i do however have a wireless network card.

can i configure the wireless card to allow access via the network to xbox? and then get an internet connection on the xbox for weather in xbmc imdb etc etc? i am able to configure the wireless card in the same fashion as the nic card other than the 10/base duplex. that doesnt appear in the settings on a wireless is this correct?

the xbox settings are

ip static
10/half duplex
ip: 192.168.0.3
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.0.1 (my pc's ip) should the pc ip i insert be the computer ip (like when selecting ports in the firewall or the isp ip?
dns 0.0.0.0
dns2 0.0.0.0
delay 0
skip setup: no

ftp
enable: yes
password: xbox
port: 21

telnet
enable: yes

igr: no

the wireless bridge
ip 192.168.0.3 (which i have set as that of the xbox)
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1

pc settings
ip 192.168.0.1
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway: left blank

i can access the wireless bridge through the web setup utility (by typing in the web address) and i can ping to the xbox ip. telnet does not work if i try and ping that (says host name not found - cmd typed is ping telnet 192.168.0.3 21)

i have disabled the firewall on xp (and i have no other firewall software on my pc) plus i have forwarded port 21.

tonight i am going to try and connect via a straight through cable direct into the router instead of through the wireless see if that helps.

when i try and connect via flashfxp it says connection timed out.

i am running version 3 of flashfxp. i have turned off passive mode (as i am running evox) in the site manager and in options. how many places in the pasv mode hidden?

hopefully this is sufficient info.

i cant figure out why i can connect to the wirless bridge but not the xbox.

can someone confirm that the settings i have are correct?
the gateway for my wireless bridge, should be the same as that on the host pc? currently it is blank. should the xbox have a gateway of not?
i tried using the non static ip option and the ip i got was 0.0.0.0. if i was to use a non static ip on the xbox should i blank out all the other settings on the evox.ini? or can i still use a static ip for the xbox in a network with tcp/ip enabled as obtain automatically?

on a network, no two ip's can be the same. change the xbox ip so that it's different from the bridge (wet11 adapter), the router and the pc but keep the same subnet and format for all of them, i.e. subnet: 255.255.255.0 and ip 192.168.0.x). the ip of the bridge is just used for accessing its config settings from the pc so you can forget about it. on the xbox, the gateway and dns ips should be the router's ip (not the pc's) just like the gateway and dns servers on the pc.

i just did one of these setups for a friend last week. wet11 at the xbox, wrt54g connected to a cable modem, pc plugged in to the wrtg54. wrt54g getting ip from the isp via dhcp.

it seems like you may be making this more complex than it needs to be. from what i can tell, you have a wireless router of some sort, that router is plugged via cable in to your cable/dsl modem and via cable in to your pc. then your xbox has a wet 11 on it as well.

if that is the case, i would strongly recommend you use dhcp. your ip addresses are not going to float all over the place, they will usually stay the same.

for the setup i just did this is the way it is setup and it works great! set the wrt54g (or whatever router you have) to issue dhcp addresses, your pc will get on, make sure it can get to the internet, then set the wet11 to get its ip via dhcp, set the xbox to get an address via dhcp. go in to the router's config page and look through the dhcp lease area and it will show you what ip your xbox is on. you should then be able to ftp in to that ip.

you do not need to do any forwarding on your router for this to work. forwarding opens up an external port from the internet and forwards that port to some ip on you internal network. in other words, that means if you set this up, everyone in the world can get in to and f#@k up your xbox. nothing that you want to work internally on your network will ever require you to forward something from the outside world.

if you for some reason don't want to use dhcp, the settings for your xbox should be the same as they are for your pc. the wet11 is acting as a bridge, not a router, so for your xbox to work, it must have an address sheme just like any other device plugged directly in to your router. copy the settings from your desktop, the only difference is it needs a unique ip.

if you for some reason don't want to use dhcp...

you're better off setting static ips for at least two reasons:
1.) it's quicker at boot up.
2.) you don't have to check your xbox's ip in your router config each time you want to ftp from pc to xbox.
dhcp is mostly useful for isps when you have to manage a huge number of clients that can connect and disconnect at any time. for a small home network, static ip is the way to go.

thanks for all the feedback and advice.

ive got the network setup using dhcp (i started with a simple network and expanded.)

i cant get the dhcp thing working for the xbox - i would like to keep a static ip on that. the problem lies with my internet. if i use dhcp for the net i cant connect to the xbox and if i use a static ip (which is what i do) for the pc i cant access the internet??? what gives with that?

i turned staic ip to no on my xbox - do i make all the other parts blank (ip dns gateway etc or just leave them as it is) with static ip on no i dont get an ip at all just 0.0.0.0 on the evox skin.

its no great hardship turning off the net for an hour or two to ftp but as i cant get on the net there is no chance of xbox live (or alternative) and if i have the net on i cant stream media from my pc (which truly is sweet!)

im going to put in my wireless pc card tonight. will the xbox be able to connect via that automatically?

regarding the router port forwarding. i have my winxp firewall set to block the ports i dont use and open the ports i have forwarded.

cheers for your help bro's

if i use dhcp for the net i cant connect to the xbox and if i use a static ip (which is what i do) for the pc i cant access the internet???

there are two networks in your system : your local lan and the isp wan. the router bridges these two networks and must therefore have two ip adresses, in order to be accessible from each interface. the router's wan ip is usually conferred by your isp's dhcp server and must therefore be set to dynamic. however, the router lan ip must be set to static, i.e. 192.168.0.1.

the pc, xbox and bridge reside solely in the lan and so they each have only one ip adress, which can be set to dynamic or static. if you set these to static, you have to choose the same format as the router's lan ip (same subnet and ips of the form 192.168.0.x, i.e. you could set pc ip = 192.168.0.2, xbox= 192.168.0.3, wet11= 192,168.0.4). you can also set these ips to be dynamic but you must then run a dhcp server on your router that will hand out ips to these devices, much like your isp has handed an ip to your router's wan interface. whichever you choose, in order to access internet from xbox and pc, you must set the gateway and dns servers on these devices to point to the router's local lan ip (192.168.0.1). i really can't make it clearer than this...
