Hey! :)
I'm having a problem, and it doesn't seem to be that common since i haven't heard about any other having the problem.
My problem is that XBMC runs at a very low color bitrate and a not-so-impreesive resolution, even when set to "auto" in the settings. You can see some screenshots below:

How can this be? is there a solution?
System info:
IBM Lenovo Z61m
Intel Centrino Duo T7200, 2.00Ghz
ATI x1400
2 GB ram
1680x1050 pixel screen resolution

It looks like your color quality is not set to 32 bit. What monitor are you using and what version of Windows? If using either Vista or Windows 7, you'll want to download your ATI drivers from the laptop manufacturer set for Vista and install, then make sure your settings look like this:

I had this problem. Make sure you update to the latest drivers for your graphics card. Do it through the ATI's website and it should solve the problem. I have a geforce 6800 but updated drivers seemed to work for ATI cards at this thread. http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?p=259787

Thanks for your help. :)
It seems as Catalyst on my laptop is set right(i use xp pro, btw).
But something strange happens when i want to update the driver.. it says, after launching the .exe file of the driver-update, it looks like it installes something and then it says that the software couldn't be installed on my computer and that i would need to contact the producer of my computer(IBM/lenovo)...
What to do??

Try installing the driver from this location. Hopefully this should resolve the issues.

Argh, unfortunatly it didn't help anything.. i can install the driver (which, ofc, i'm thankful for), but it doesn't solve the problem with low color-bitrate.. :(
Any other suggestions?
