I have a 720p set, but all of my fanart/backdrops are in 1080p. If I change it to 720p, will I see a noticeable performance benefit?

Smaller file size, less processing time on file, no point doing stuff 1080p when your screen can only handle 720p

All of your fanart is cached by XBMC and unless you notice any difference in them loading I would bother. In fact some of my 720 ones are bigger in size than some of the 1080 ones.

Clarify?

Clarify?

He means that a file that's 1920x1080 can be smaller in file size than one of 1280x720.

This is because of jpg (or png) compression. It depends on the 'complexity' of the image, not just the resolution.

I would advise that you keep all your artwork at 1080 (just in case you were thinking of scaling down to 720p). You might see a slight improvement in performance at 720, but it shouldn't be massive. There are many variables at play... disk performance, graphics performance, network performance etc.

Plus... with 720p screens, you won't get pixel perfect mapping (long story, but no 720p set is actually 1280x720 pixels... )
