I think my "in-computer-case" ir reciver is crap, is there a highly recommended IR reciver out there? That works perfectly with windows xp and xbmc? I use a Logitech Harmony remote.

I don't need to send, only receive IR.

still; the usb-uirt is one of the better ir recievers; compatible with anything and sensitive enough to be controlled easily (i can point my remote nearly anywhere and it still picks up the ir signals)

don't ask questions if you are going to knock sincere answers from people far more experienced than yourself -- do your own research.

MS MCE works great. It's an old chip that is supported by many remote app, including eventghost. It can receive IR signal from almost any remote.
It can also wake up your computer from s3.
